So do we get a golf league with the Canadian Sovereign wealth fund ?

It would piss off all the Trump cronies at the PGA and would certainly get his attention.

So, good investment?

Yes, sovereign wealth funds are a cheat codes when utilized properly. On the extreme end you have a country like Norway, population of 5-6 million with a 1.9 Trillion dollar sovereign wealth fund that is so fucking big now that they can tap into 3% of it a year to provide a shit ton of public funding for social programs without raising taxes or taking on debt, while still seeing the fund increase in size YoY. Think about it, 3% of 1.9T is 58 Billion a year. The 2025 Norwegian budget included increases in defence spending, childcare benefits, student loan write offs, disability pensions, energy subsidies...while cutting taxes for people earning less than ~110K USD, and their VAT (similar to our HST). All of that while running a big government surplus.

It's a fucking cheat code if it's invested in and managed properly, but it's one of those things that has to be left alone until it hits escape velocity and the compounding value of it becomes so big that you can tap into part of that and make a meaningful difference in your budget. For example, Alberta has had one that they pillage from often and don't know how to manage the investments of, so despite having a similar population and historic barrel per day production as Norway (and, most importantly, Norway's oil industry is nationalized and all oil profits go into the fund, not just some of the royalties), it's in the 25 Billion range last I checked.

Albertans like to say so, but both were implemented in the mid 70's so probably not.
