Yeah, I'm mostly good with this as an opening salvo. The goal here is to get a deal, or get Trump to honor USMCA. I'm okay with opening up with pleasantries (that can be interpreted a few different ways tbh...) and letting his reaction dictate where we go. He's going to keep shitting himself with this 51st state nonsense, but we're in a better position to make our diversification moves away from the US if we're not bleeding jobs and in a deep recession.
The core problem is that there's no consistency. I'm pleased that USMCA came up in this conversation because we don't need a new deal, we have a brand new fucking deal already. We just need our largest trading partner to fucking honour the deal he himself signed.
But that is going to be an ongoing issue with anything involving Trump.
