OT: American Politics

Hopefully, anyone left in this administration is still in prison.

That would be nice, and the rational response from a serious country. But the USA is 2026 is neither. I'm not holding my breath that there will be any consequences. The Democrats are way more likely to want to "close the book" or some shit on the Trump era, which will of course do nothing but inspire his top acolytes to run it back but harder the next time.

The core issue isn't even Trump. It's the voters who put Trump in power twice. How do you trust the US again even if you think a specific administration from 2028 onward is trustworthy? They could be gone in 2032 and President Miller could be raging about the deals you signed with the immigrant loving democrats in 2029.

Distance from the US is national security until they prove they're not fucking insane for 2-3 cycles.

This is it, essentially. They followed up Trump 1.0 by literally electing Obama's VP, who spent four years crowing at home and abroad that America was back and a reliable & democratic international partner again.

Only for all that to amount to shit when the US electorate happily rug-pulled the world and brought back Trump again. And this after four years of a completely flaccid response by the US political establishment, media and justice department to hold Trump or anyone in his orbit to account for the crimes of his first term & coup attempt.

The US has a long, long road ahead before any other country should remotely trust them again.
