OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Mammoliti got on his soap box, accused Perk of being a hypocrite because he doesn't support random drug testing of Cllrs, and asked him a few times whether he's ever smoked marijuana before. Nunziata ruled his question out of order. The entire time, Rob Ford was chirping.
All of this is a complete mess - but I bet if you tested for weed and blow you'd get a bunch of +'s.

Not that it matters...they aren't the mayor and they aren't cavorting with gangs.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I gotta say, I'm actually impressed that council seems to be trying to take a stand here, even though they're relatively powerless.

I thought they'd just let Ford steamroll them and move on.

They aren't relatively powerless - they are entirely powerless. There is currently nothing they can do to get Ford to step down despite him deserving that fate.

CP24 @CP24
City council has voted 25-19 against sending Coun. Denzil Minnan-Wong's motion to the integrity commissioner...

not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

not to directly force him to step down, true, but if they can stay unified and keep up the pressure, and perhaps pass the bill on friday taking away the mayor's power to appoint/remove committee members, they can still at least cut his power, and hopefully force him to remove himself.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

LMAO...and the clown show continues...

Mayor Ford brings forward a motion on forcing council into follicle and blood screening for drug testing.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Bruce Arthur @bruce_arthur
"I'm not a rat," begins Mayor Rob Ford, before moving a motion that the hair of councillors are tested for drug and alcohol. Not kidding.

Daniel Dale @ddale8
Interesting that Ford mentions "hair" drug testing. People noticed how unusually short he got his hair cut after the crack scandal erupted.

robyndoolittle @robyndoolittle
The mayor is calling for mandatory drug and alcohol testing by December 1 2013 for all city councillors. And he'll pay for it.

That was Perks motion no?

I'm torn on it as well. It seems like the smart thing to do, I have no ****ing clue what it would take 3 months though.
