OT: American Politics

so frustrating that trump could have just said "wear a mask to save the economy" and he would have not only saved lives but also improved the economy

I’m still convinced that, in spite of all his misdeeds, flaws and all the giant red flags around him, if his response to Covid had been to just turn things over to actual medical experts like Fauci, get them the resources they needed and not contradict their messaging, he’d have been easily re-elected.

And I don’t think American democracy and the rule of law would’ve survived another four years of Trump at the helm.

I'm still hopeful that we're not seeing the worst case post-holidays explosion, especially if you see the dip here during the holidays as likely a reporting issue and not an actual caseload issue - i.e. if you ignore that Xmas dip and just draw a line from the previous peak to the current peak that still looks like a significantly slowed curve from what was happening in November.

You might be right that the growth rate is slightly slowed from November but if they're approaching 5,000 people dying every day, I'm not sure how comforting that is?

The idea that the president of the United States, who has the loudest podium and biggest press operation in the world, has been "silenced" is absolutely hilarious.
They are going on FOXnews, the #1 cable news show and complaining about having no voice...

But those deaths were baked in by the start of December. There was nothing to be done about it at that point. These deaths were coming even if spread stopped completely at that point.

The big question for me is whether all the new measures taken in early december were able to slow the spread, especially over the holidays. So far I haven't given up hope there yet.

Canada looking a bit worse off but even then it doesn't look like a post holidays explosion yet, even though there are some weird troughs and peaks likely due to holiday reporting issues:

I'll try not to crap on your optimism then.

Note 1: this statement depends entirely on the blatant lie that "the president is calling for calm".

Note 2: Lindsey is advocating surrendering go terrorists.

Note 3: shockingly, despite his cowardice, he actually called out Mitch. Splintering?

I won’t pretend this guy deserves to be mourned, but there’s yet another death that you can lay at Trump’s feet.

I’d be curious to know if this guy did it purely out of fear of the consequences that were coming this way, out of despair that Dear Leader won’t be staying in power, or if he had any last minute realization that he’d been played by a conman.
