I don't disagree, but I think "we" have cut them too much slack over the years because of how ridiculous they seem to anyone remotely civilized. The last few months though has shown how dangerous that entire movement is and shared fiction is what binds them together. It's an authoritarian christian nationalist movement and it's incredibly dangerous.
