OT: American Politics

A senior US intelligence official appointed by President Donald Trump abruptly announced he is stepping down from his post on Tuesday, citing misgivings about the administration’s war with Iran.

Joe Kent, who had been serving as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, posted his resignation letter on X, contradicting the administration’s basis for launching the war and imploring Trump to end it.

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” Kent wrote in the letter. “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

Unfortunately this is only going to give his administration more reasons to leave NATO, and more reasons to shit on his neighbours and allies.

I am not sure that he is leaving NATO. If he invades a NATO country ( hello Canada and Greenland! ), that triggers Article 5, and that's WW3.

I'd be surprised if he actually formally left Nato fwiw. Once the US is out, he has no leverage over it, no article 5 power, etc. He knows he would ignore a declaration of article 5 from anyone else, so there's no real downside for him to stay in it.

Only fear is Putin wants us to ruin NATO....

It's already ruined. If Russia attacked the baltics tomorrow, the US would not show up. The rest of NATO would, which is more than enough to feed Vlad his lunch. He's currently losing ground in Ukraine, they've probably canceled their spring offensive (Zelensky made mention in an address a few day ago that they cooked Russia's ability to launch it) and Moscow has faced large drone attacks 4 nights in a row now.

There's rumours of a general mobilization coming soon though because Russia is slowly starting to lose the war and winning the war is existential for Vlad's regime and probably Vlad himself but I don't think even a general mobilization will change anything.
