Re: OT - Fanboy fight: XBox 360 V PS3
Gonna put this in here to get it on topic.
Here is the low down on the XBox One.
You will need to be connected to the Internet once every 24 hours in order to play single player games. So if your internet is out for more than 24 hours your out of luck. Or if you don't have internet hooked up to it you cannot play it. (I know a few people that just play it for single player games). You can buy used games but they will need to be purchased from authorized re-sellers. So you could theoretically sell your game to say gamestop or EB and I believe they will re-activate it through Microsoft for re-sell. Once you purchase it used it cannot be re-sold again. Once the game is installed on another XBox One the game is removed from your account.
If you wanted to bring a game over to your friends place to play you can do that....if you are friends with that person on Xbox live 30 days prior to you playing it there. It can then only be used on that particular person's Xbox One, no place else. If you are not friends with that person on XBox Live and it is installed on another XBox, the game is removed from your system.
The low down on The PS4.
The system will be accessible exactly the same way that the PS3 is, buy used games, re-sell games, trade games, take games over to your friends place etc etc. No restrictions on the copy you buy. You own it do with it as you please.
This rumor about Sony 'lying about DRM" is BS. They basically said that they cannot indirectly stop a 3rd party game developers from putting an activation code on their games. So let's say EA wants to stop someone from passing around a game for everyone to use, they could theoretically do that. But they won't and said they will pretty much restrict developers from doing it. Pretty much every gaming developer has moved away from doing this anyways as they know if pisses off their customer base. What EA has done in the past was sell a hard copy of a game that had Downloadable content already on it (Mass Effect 2 for example) so they provided a code inside the case of the game that you punch in to download that content. It was a way stop people from being able to share the DLC. As I said, no gaming developer is expected to start using activation codes so the DRM theory has completely been squashed.
As far as the price point goes. Yes, the Kinect is already inside, but even if you added the Playstation eye it is still cheaper. I would honestly rather have the option to add it on rather than having the "Ever seeing Eye" already built in.
Yes, the PS4 will require a subscription of 60.00 per year or 4.99 per month to play multiplayer online. The Xbox live is similar in price. But here is where the PS+ network is different. The PS+ network will offer a free PS4 game every month. So for the price of 60.00, or one game you get 12 PS4 games, per yer, free and they aren't gonna be shitty 'iphone games" they will be games that are out on shelves. On top of that, you will also be able to download multiple smaller games or PS3 games for free each month. You also, get 60 minutes free trial periods of games. So before you download a game, you can try it for 60 minutes (full game, not just the demo), if you want to buy it than you can and the game continues from where your 60 minutes left off. You also receive access to new game demo and beta testing. Also announced streaming services - it is rumored that PS+ members will have access to media content as music and movies with their subscription. - (but Netflix and others will be separate so you don't need to subscribe in order to access Netflix on your PS4). Online save games. You can download a game. Log into your account at your buddies place and pick up playing the game there.
Sony has without a doubt listened to their customers and developed a system that just makes sense. Anyone arguing that the XBox One is a better system is either a Microsoft fan boy that is butt hurt or doesn't know WTF their talking about. The PS4 will by far be a better system, hands down. They beat the shit out of Microsoft on the DRM and used games issue.
2. Xbox has 4 months to make the changes to their machine now to play used games and such and will make those changes in order to keep up.
There hasn't been any announcement that they are gonna make any changes to their system and I bet they won't. Their system is designed to be able to install the entire game on the Hard drive. The disc isn't needed to play the game. That was their mistake. As soon as they introduced that than they had to start protecting themselves from piracy. That's why they put in all these restrictions from used and sharing games. Oh and and Microsoft's official response to not having internet? "Use an Xbox 360". -

Gonna put this in the gaming thread as well as I have a feeling there will be some debate about it.
