OT: MLB Thread

40% of the traffic lights in the city of Detroit are non-functional. Detroit is flat-ass-broke. But it's got teams in all major sports and has built a new football and a new baseball stadium within the last few years. The local economy in Pittsburgh is nothing to write home about but they've built new parks for the Steelers and Pirates, and PNC Park where the Buckos play cost under $300 million to build (in 2014 dollars)

If cities like those can find a way to build stadiums and support their franchises, why not Montreal?

The article says it all...there is no leadership and no political leverage in the province. Pittsburgh has rebounded, Detroit will turn it around because they have leadership and people will/have fought for these cities.

Detroit has the best owner in North American pro-sports - Mike Illitch. Mtl doesn't have an Illitch, that's the crux of the problem.

Our present mayor is very much in favor of "aligning the planets" as he says to bring baseball back. It's a start compared to his most recent predecessors.

stop teasing me... i miss this team... bad

Me too. Until that proverbial billionnaire appears though, nothing can really take off. But all these little things might make is a little more attractive for that illusive money man.

Only company is Bell... and i cannot picture them sinking any money into a ball team. They really like your money,,, but no to baseball

If Quebec would finally denounce and renounce separatism, then you would have a better shot but face it, no one wants to sink billions into Quebec as long as Marois is around threatening another Neverendum.

I don't know what you're talking about. Since this whole bill 101 thing, all the jobs have switched from Ontario to Quebec. Montreal has been booming, and companies want to come here instead of toronto. Seperation is just the icing on the cake. We can finally keep all the money instead of forking over 9 billion each year to help the feds. Also, after we seperate Unicorns will roam free and pasture throughout the province.

Watching a bit of the Jays and Rays game. There may be 5000 fans at TB... if they are lucky. Lots and lots of empty blue seats.

So you are the guy who writes her speeches.

Ya. And that is with a good team!

If I lived there I would be at every game....front row seats, no traffic, no lines, no competition for foul balls, etc

The last thing ExpoFan can ever criticize another team for is empty seats.

That being written, it does appear Tampa is a failed market baseball wise (hell both Florida teams are but at least the Siths coaxed two WS championships out of Miami).

Giants are off to a good start 3-1 so far with a fair number of home runs. However, they will likely be swept in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Think there was again <10k for the Rays/Jays game. They have a solid team, and one of if not the best management in mlb, if they ever go on a losing streak, it will get very ugly fast there.
