OT: Movies/TV Shows

I've watched one episode.
Very true to the Book, but of course, instead of exposition in prose, you get a bunch of flashback-y kind of vignettes...that could make it tougher to get into.
I think it's necessary though, as who Kovacs is is as important to the story as anything else, and I'm pretty sure the author had a message beyond a straight murder mystery.

I'm excited, will probably finish it off this weekend.

I'm 6 episodes in, and loving it. It's not GoT or Stranger Things (1) calibre good, but it's a solid sci-fi with very good CGI and effects (you can see Netflix throwing a lot of $$ at it) ... and decent acting too.

Story starts a little slow but it's a great sci-fi mystery that seems to get more and more interesting. Can't wait to see how it ends

Ya I'm getting deeper and it keeps getting better. It's the kinda show that could go on for a long time.

BTW, the Ritual on Netflix is a pretty good horror flick. It played at TIFF and they bought the right. It got released yesterday.

Haven't seen that yet but my cousin(inlaw) is in it... when he was with us for Christmas he explained his part as "I'm the guy who dies so my wife can fall for the hero".... lol.
He was the guy at the very beginning? Red haired dude? The Comanche did a number on him.

Yep, that's him lol... Haven't seen it yet, but that's the gist of it I'm told. The NYC stage scene and indy movies have been his bread and butter and lately he's getting some wide-release movie roles too (Bridge of Spies, X-Men, Bourne series...)...

The finale to Altered Carbon was pretty weak IMO, fell into a bunch of tropes that they had done a good job of avoiding. But still a fantastic series on the whole. Looking forward to where they go.

I didn't hate the finale... but it wasn't as great as the rest of the season. Looking forward to seeing where it goes as well.

agreed

it was terrible

as for the season as a whole
took my a bit to get into it but it really picked up from say episodes 3-8

but 9 and 10 were awful, predictable, boring, etc

highlight for altered carbon spoilers

Lizzie sort of ruined it for me - it went from a touchy story to I am a bad ass killer after a few weeks (months?) of training - ummmm so why doesn't everybody just do some virtual training crap?

Oh boy. I am at Ep8 and the way the season has got better and better, I'm anticipating a good ending ... guess I can forget about that.

Is there gonna be season 2?

Highlight for answers:

Maybe a lot of people do virtual training... but you'd need an AI trainer. Remember she kinda covered that when she said something like "an hour on the outside is like a month in here."

So a couple days in real life is years of training in virtual.

Meh, it wasn't that bad. Yes, there will likely be more seasons. But it does stand alone too.

Ya it wasn't that bad. Definitely worth it. I just liked the first 80% of the season more because there was more of a WTF is happening vibe. Anybody could be anybody, everyone had secrets. As they tied up all the loose ends it was less exhilarating. I would have preferred a more open ended conclusion that kept me thinking.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Yes, but you have to put in the work. Even though it's only like a days worth of real life training... it still feels like years worth to the person doing it. That would ve serious dedication.
