OT: Movies/TV Shows

I see the wheel of shit got cancelled on Prime. It's more of a relief than a disappointment after how much they butchered (and doubled down trying to justify doing so), the original story. Good riddance to Rafe Judkins.

Incredible how much of an abortion it was.

How do you take the job talking about how it's a massive series and it's going to be a challenge condensing storylines to make a show of it, and then invent a character for your boyfriend to play and give him more screen time than Mat gets?

Could you imagine pitching this to Harriet: So yeah, we're going to basically cut out Thom (but he'll get a few cameo appearances!), but instead we're going to invent a gay warder for Alana (who is going to become a main character, for reasons) and give him more screen time than Mat or Perrin in season 3 (oh, and also I'm going to cast my boyfriend for the role I invented)

It's kind of hard to get over just how they butchered the first 4 books to get to where they were at cancellation.

Why would you watch multiple seasons? First one was bad enough

I didn't, but I was aware of the online chatter about it. there was a whole ass drama about it on reddit with the pro show sub reddits posting baby gore on anti show sub reddits to get them shut down, mods on the payroll of amazon, etc. throw in a few youtube videos from content creators doing season reviews and I knew more than enough.

Two problems here in the first two minutes

1) his mcd’s analogy is fuckin shit cause McDonald’s is delicious and not corporate slop.

2) his premise is off base. Disney has had some bigtime misses with Star Wars when it’s tried tagging along on earlier canon material. But the quality has been through the roof on its original offshoots, with one exception. Mandalorian, Rogue one, Andor, skeleton crew are all fucking excellent. The only miss has been the acolyte.

Andor and Rogue One are elite. Mando had 1 elite season (thanks to Favreau). Skeleton Crew was fun though not ambitious.

but you're missing far too much Disney Star Wars. Especially the truly dire recent big budget shows like Book of Boba, Obi Wan, Ahoka.

Disney Star Wars in order (* = movie):

1. Clone Wars
2. Rebels
3. The Force Awakens*
4. Rogue One*
5. The Last Jedi*
6. Solo*
7. Resistance
8. The Rise of Skywalker*
9. The Mandolorian
10. The Book of Boba Fett
11. The Bad Batch
12. Visions
13. Obi-Wan Kenobi
14. Andor
15. Ahsoka
16. Young Jedi Adventures
17. Tales of the Empire
18. The Acolyte
19. Skeleton Crew

And to be fair, the slop goes back pre-disney to the prequels as well. Actually started with Return of the Jedi tbh.

either way, Andor is a huge huge step up from everything pretty much. but probably a one off. it's not even really star wars tbh, or at least doesn't need to be.

I think skeleton crew was great because it didn’t try to be too ambitious.

The shit series we’re all based on existing canon and yes slop that lazily tried to trade on the history/sentiment.

But again… 4 fresh idea shows, one is some of the greatest tv ever, another a step down (though yes ma do season 3 wasn’t very good - though mando boba fett was), another that captured the spirit of force awakens <edit: I meant a new hope here>. Tho acolyte was awful.

i actually liked what acolyte was trying to do tbh. and it had one great episode, which is all ahsoka and obi wan managed, and more than boba managed.

but again, andor is not even really in the same stratosphere. even rogue one is a good step down, though that's mroe of a fault with a messy production.

Acolyte might have been better with better casting and if they trimmed some of the fat (the witches stuff was weak). But it became sloppy as hell with bloat and bad acting - especially the Asian guy.

Watch rogue one again. Just watched it post andor 2. Knowing His story gives it a lot more depth.

Oh i love Rogue. And yeah Andor completes it's big weakness - it wasn't able to establish it's characters very well, which lessened the impact at the end. But that's fixed now.

hell a New Hope is even way better now due to Andor.

Andor actually made the whole universe better. Pretty rare.
