OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

best non-sequel ever as well
- dark knight rises and one of the harry potters had a better opening weekend

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Just watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Very good movie, Rooney Mara absolutely should have won an award for that role.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Saw the Hunger Games tonight. It was definitely enjoyable. I didn't read the books so I can't comment on them, though it does surprise me that this is classified as a teen level story.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I saw GWDT real late into the theatre season so it was near empty when we went...and i'm pretty sure there was a man sitting by himself beating it to a couple scenes.

Most awkward happening in a theatre this year.

Close second was the kid with tourettes that was in the theatre when i saw the Muppets

I can't even remember which new movies I've seen this year so far. School is killing my viewings.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Anyone interested in a bit of a weird ass movie.. Check out spanish director Pedro Almodovar's "Skin I live In"
I like his stuff, and this one was typically odd, but it goes into some really different areas.
Below is a bit of a synopsis for those who may not want to watch it but still want to know what it's about.... (highlight to read)

The story is about a well renowned plastic surgeon who in the beginning seems to be working on a woman that he has made to look exactly like his dead wife. His wife was burned in a car crash that was caused by his unknown half brother, who was having an affair with her. He tried to get her back to the way she was but when she saw herself she commits suicide in front of their daughter. So the daughter grows up traumatized and one day she finally decides to go out in public with her plastic surgeon father to a wedding.
While at the wedding, she is taken by this young tailor and she is kind of raped... he started then she had a meltdown and he left. She is left there in the garden and the father finds her, however when she wakes up she completely has had a mental breakdown.... in therapy she is completely lost and so she commits suicide like her mother.
So the plastic surgeon is so distraught that he decides to kid nap the tailor guy who raped his daughter and over a few years converts her into a woman. Giving him a vagina, and doing some genetic experiments with skin to make the skin burn resistant, and then changing this guy into a woman that looks exactly like his dead wife. And he does this to have sex with her and everything. Super ass creepy weird.
Well done Almodovar, for making movies that always leave you leave going WTF???

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Speaking of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, read all three books over the last year. They are AWESOME.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

with games of thrones starting season 2 tommorow, can someone explain this whole dragan queen and her dragons?? does it tie into the other story somehow???

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

She's the last (or is she?) remaining heir of the former dynastic family that ruled Westeros before King Robert's rebellion. At some point in the distant past, that family rode, trained, etc dragons. Her entire story arc is about her wanting to return to Westeros to claim her throne.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen
