OT: Movies/TV Shows

Watched "Alex Cross" last night. Holy shit! Tyler Perry is a horrible actor. The entire film has a weird, cheap look to it. Like it was some cable movie or direct-to-DVD release.

I'll give credit to Mathew Fox as the psycho. He was pretty good.

It also has the worst tagline ever; " Don't Ever Cross Alex Cross" Yeesh.

True, but this was his first movie where he tried to branch-out in a more commercial film for everyone. He didn't have his paws all over the creative process of the movie.

I guess... but I just couldn't get past the fact that it's Tyler Perry. Now I'm glad I couldn't. Haven't heard anything good.

GOT was ok last night....I am lost on the Theon storyline though...wonder where they are going with it. It is not playing out like I remember from the book.

The first few episodes have been slow but you can tell they are building up to something especially with the valar morghulis reference from Missandei and the ending last night.

Sure it is.

NOT REALLY SPOILERS BUT READ AT OWN RISK

They are just doing it live instead of him telling about it in book 5.

The 'kid' that saved him is you know who.

Slow? how so?

Loved the last two episodes.

With a show as quality as GoT, I don't even notice if a episode is "slow" because the writing and overall story arc is so good that you know everything had it's purpose. It's definitive in it's direction.

Unlike something like say 'Lost' where you knew they were stretching out an original story to make it as profitable and long lasting as possible.

That was an awesome episode last night. Highlight to see answer.

Major Spoilers - highlight

If I remember correctly in the book, Ramsay Snow/Bolton has a servant named "Reek" who finds his way to Winterfell and becomes Theon's servant. Reek tells Theon that he can find reinforcements and leaves. Robb had sent an army to re-take Winterfell. When Robb's army shows up and Theon is surrounded, The Bolton's show up, lead by Ramsay, The Bolton's then kill Robb's army at Winterfell and Ramsay disguises himself as "Reek" to go in and talk with Theon. When he does this Theon is betrayed by "Reek/Ramsay" and is taken prisoner.

I think the problem with them trying to tell this story is that it's kind of confusing to to bringing in the "Reek" character as there are basically three of them (Real Reek, Ramsay and eventually Theon becoming the third). Much easier to have it so the Iron Born betray him and he is taken prisoner by the Bolton's (Eventually Theon will probably be introduced as Reek after Ramsay breaks him in season 4-5). In the book when the Bolton's destroy Robb's forces outside Winterfell, it is right around the time when Roose makes a deal with Tywin Lannister, Jamie is freed from the Bloody Mummers by Roose Bolton (who coincidentally are also not in the series, and who were the ones responsible for cutting off Jamie's hand, Vorgo Hoat "The Goat" - Later Roose cuts off Vorgo's feet and other body parts as pay back for taking Jamie's hand and feeds them to Vorgo as he starving him) . So Roose makes a deal with Tywin to become Lord in the North, and they both make a deal with the Frey's to betray Robb (Red Wedding). Roose free's Jamie and sends him back to King's Landing. I think they want to progress the Theon story line but without revealing the Bolton's betrayal of the Stark's this early, with the big reveal coming later this season at the Red Wedding. It's pretty confusing in the book so I think they just dumbed it down for viewers as it is a lot of characters to deal with.

In the series, the guy that is helping him escape is Ramsay Snow/Bolton. He is basically toying with him by helping him "escape". All that he is doing is leading him in circles and eventually will take him back to the place where he was being tortured. In the book Theon is taken prisoner in A Storm of Swords and we don't hear from him again until "Reek" shows up in A Dance With Dragon's (5th book). But A Feast for Crows (4th book) and A Dance with Dragon's basically overlap each other and were suppose to be one book. The stories can be told basically together. So I think the first half of season 4 will still be on book 3 and then the next 25 or so episodes will be A Feast for Cr. At the same time they are also trying to protect the Red Wedding reveal as the two stories somewhat tie into each other.

I really wonder if they are going to show two season's of Theon being tortured. There are some pretty cringe worthy parts in A Dance of Dragons with Theon as Reek. Ramsay will soon become the most hated character on the show. I love the parts in the book where Ramsay basically just toys with him by trying to get Theon to escape by leaving doors unlocked and so on, knowing full well that Ramsay will **** him up if he gets caught. Theon gets broken down hard in the books, it's a great progression as a reader as you go from hating him for betraying the Stark's to pretty much feeling incredibly bad for him. I don't think they will take it to the extreme as the books do but it will be interesting to see how they handle it.

"My name is Reek, it rhymes with Meek"
