OT: Movies/TV Shows

It may not be Jason's, though it would make sense if it is (at least a few years ago), but it's definitely a Robin suit. You can see the "R" in the top right corner of the suit.

The trailer is still pretty sick, but I'm really just not that sold on Affleck as Batman, and definitely not that dorky weasel as Lex.

If Bale had reprised his role and they got a true badass to play Luthor - maybe Bryan Cranston? - it'd be so much more exciting.

Agree with everything in this post. Zuckerberg is such a bizarre choice as Luthor and Affleck doesn't have the acting ability to play a convincing Bruce Wayne IMO.

I guess I'm a fanboy, I knew it was Robin's as soon as I saw it, and was hoping they are pulling from Miller again, and that there is some flashbacking to his demise.

Maybe in time there will be but Joker is not supposed to be in this film. His presence will be known.

Most likely in Suicide Squad there would be a flashback.

No no....Batman is old in this, he's retired...they will undoubtedly show what led him to where he was.

In suicide squad there is a flashback for sure, we know that because we all saw the old batmobile in town.

The fact I'm such a fan of the source material is actually what bums me out about them pulling from it to help support a Superman movie......having 'The Dark Knight Returns' being picked just sucks in general. Such a classic, should be it's own standalone movie in and of itself. Period.

I'm not all that excited about the flick, but imo those are two aspects of it that actually pique my interest.....Affleck is pretty damn well cast for the larger/bulkier/aged Bruce Wayne of the Miller material, and Eisenberg as a "dorky weasel" Luthor, is pretty spot on casting given that's precisely what Luthor was prior to the chemical fire that caused him to lose his hair. Origin Luthor is pretty much exactly what Eisenberg played in the Social Network......the smartest guy in the room at all times, who has a hint of psychopathy underlying everything he says.

While that was definitely a hugely popular choice amongst fan-casting for eons.....Cranston was so goddamn perfect as Jim Gordon, I couldn't personally picture him in the diametrically opposed role, of Luthor.

Moreover, he just doesn't fit whatsoever the casting of a Luthor origin story, which is obviously what they're shooting for here.

Agree with just about everything but this really. Not that DKR shouldn't/couldn't have it's own stand alone movie, but what this movie is supposed to be. I don't see it as a "Superman flick" so much as it is for a launching pad for the DCU. Honestly, the weakest part of DKR imo is the Superman portion of the story line where he's basically a one dimensional boy scout that does the bidding of Reagan without question really(which thankfully doesn't seem to be the direction the DCU is taking with Supes). I think the 'Alien Menace' angle is a lot more believable and interesting a plot device to pit Batman Vs Big Blue against each other without bogging down into the "mutants" side of the story line (which I honestly don't think would adapt overly well to screen).

If this is well written, it should do a good job of capturing that Batman character, a better Superman character than what Miller had, and provide a more believable/enjoyable platform for their conflict.

I think Eisenberg is going to nail Luthor, personally.

+1

He pretty easily handles the genius sociopath role imo. Which is really what Lex should be. DC got really lazy by allowing Lex to turn into basically, the human version of Superman, outfitted with exosuits to be able to hold his own against Supes in.

It is a Superman flick though. It's the Superman sequel to Man of Steel.

In DKR Superman is a supporting character who's role is to further the story of Bruce Wayne/Batman........instead Snyder is using that side plotline, to drive a whole movie while mining other aspects of the classic DKR, to bolster Snyder's flick.

Agree to disagree on that being a "weak point" of DKR....Superman's role in DKR is perfectly effective given what he's meant to represent. Miller never wrote Superman to be a fully flushed out character worthy of carrying a movie.....he was a plot device. Giving him more depth to the point of it being a worthy of it's own spinoff for writers/directors would have completely defeat the his purpose in the story.

Again that's why it's a shame they're mining such a classic piece of material to support a Superman story.......they're stripping the source material of all virtually all it's mythologizing, symbology, and heart......to be able to show what Snyder thinks is the "cool" aspects of the story (The actual Batman vs Superman fight, Batman in the mechanized batsuit, etc etc)......it'll be a completely bastardized version of the DKR, that likely gets in the way of anyone telling the proper story.

The Alien story arc is perfectly fine for a story about Superman and Batman.....it just doesn't need to have anything to do with DKR. As for the Mutants not carrying over, it works perfectly fine when updated for a modern audience. It's basically what The Dark Knight Rises was, with Bane playing the role of the mutant leader. I wouldn't use it for a Superman sequel though, which again, is why I think it's a shame they're mining a classic Batman tale, to tell a Superman story.

Good writing, would allow them to tell a proper Batman/Superman story without having to butcher the greatest Batman story ever told......it's not like there aren't plenty of other Batman/Superman stories out there to mine for material, either.

Personally I've always disliked Superman.
In a world where yes, you are supposed to suspend your disbelief, I could never get with the whole Clark Kent as a disguise...that and his basic immortality never sat well with me.

I mean, glasses? That's it?

It's not a direct sequel to Man of Steel. Man of Steel 2 will be that. This sets up Justice League, while also touching on the Bats/Supes DKR storyline.

On a related note, I was always pretty meh about Cavill and still not really into him much as Superman.

But he's downright awesome in the trailer for the Man from UNCLE that was just released. That's probably the movie I'm most interested in seeing right now.
