OT: Movies/TV Shows

Tarantino can have some whack movie opinions at times, but I kinda love him all the more for it, because they’re never your classic film school kid type takes that the majority of fans/critics agree with…..but yet they’re also not hot take opinions for the sake of being click bait, they’re opinions he sincerely has, and are pretty well earned given the insane volume of films he goes through.

I’ve watched more movies that I would otherwise have passed up, or rewatched movies that I might not have given its full due on first watch, and appreciated it through new eyes a second time.

The idea Paul Dano in There Will be Blood keeps it from being the best movie of the century tho, is a pretty wild take I can’t get on board with…..maybe if your take was that it’s a better movie if it’s two actors playing both roles, but not that the role needed an Austin Butler type. That’s goofy af, imo.

I did like how his list includes fun films he just enjoys and are perfect for what they are (Jackass is perfect for what it intends to be). I'm getting tired of the usual critic lists of bad Oscar bait films everyone will forget in a month (Reading various lists now for 2025 is painful).
Ironically with Dano, he wasn't even cast in TWBB initially. An actor was fired and they went with him.

I would put Black Hawn Down, Fury Road, The Road, Zodiac, as the only films I truly thought were great since 2000' (I might be forgetting 1 or 2)

Eh Dano isn't very good and i had a hard time with him in both Blood and the Batman. And im Blood the role probably would have been better served by a charscter that wasn't so obviously weak.

What also stops Blood from being legit top tier elite imo is that he let Daniel Day go way overboard at the ending and it got a bit too silly. Still an amazing movie tho.

Punch Drunk Love I should have listed. Lost in Translation I loved as well.

Was Punch Drunk Love that great? It's the only P.T. Anderson film I've seen that I didn't think was all that great. Maybe I need to re-watch (have only seen it once).
