OT: NBA Thread

Please let it go. People are allowed to like who they want.

Claiming that there aren't fans of the Raps in Vancouver was just dumb and you got called out.

Let it go.

You keep bringing it up, not me. Nowhere did I state people could not like them, just that no one here does. You for someone who claims to be massively intelligent, has to know that when someone says there are no fans, it does not necessarily mean there are NO fans. I could say there are no Blues fans here and the fact you can show me there is a guy in a Blues jersey doesn't mean anything.

Where Wehave and I live/work, we do not see any Maple Raptor fan gear. Simple as that.

and BTW, I can see what you deleted.

The bottom line is this: one article from one lazy reporter who no one has ever heard of on a slow news day does not trump two people who actually live here and are able to tell you what goes on here on a day to day basis. We are here telling you that this narrative about how the entire country is rallying behind the Raptors and their stupid marketing campaign is bullshit. It's a myth. It does not exist and neither do these supposed Raptors fans. Nobody in this city gives a crap about the NBA in general nor the Raptors in particular. The bad experience of the Grizzlies and the relocation of the Sonics (who's games used to be aired in Vancouver) was enough to turn off most fans for life. And insofar as there is any interest in the Raptors at all, I can assure you that it's fleeting. Vancouver is the most fairweather sports town this side of Ottawa. They hop on bandwagons, that's it. You can't even count on them to show up for the Canucks, never mind the Raptors or Blue Jays. Nobody cares and after the Raptors are eliminated (hopefully on Friday) nobody in BC will say a thing about them. Today on the local sports talk radio station it's wall-to-wall Gudbranson talk. Not a peep about basketball.

I am thinking, how can a team that has played so many terrible games in the playoffs deserve to be in the Finals anyway.

They were gift wrapped a trip to the semis , total joke they need 14 games to dispose of one team with one stud and 8 d leaguers and Miami with no Bosh and Hassan for a good stretch.

Miami would of taken them down in 6 with a healthy lineup .

The gift of the eastern conference and atrocious division wont be there much longer.

You can complain about Hassan, but Valanciunas was dominating Hassan when both were healthy. Both got hurt in the same game. I think it was a wash.

They didn't win 56 games by accident.

And this was a year that the Eastern Conference was better than its been in years.

Are you sure it was him that claimed that and not one of his imaginary friends, co-workers or cousins posting under a different name from the same IP?

OK, cool.

So we both agree that there are Raptor fans in Vancouver - and as that CBC article states, they're providing a nice little boost to some local establishments.

Let's move on.

The only NBA gear I've seen anyone out here wearing in the past week was a guy in the food court at the mall wearing an OKC Thunder baseball cap. The sports shop in the mall had no NBA gear that I could see, just a lot of Canucks crap that they were blowing out at half price because the fairweather fans which constitute about 90% of all sports fans in this city abandoned the Canucks this season.

At least we are all mercifully spared from this "we the north" garbage until November, and the Blue Jays are back to being mediocre so the summer should be blissfully quiet as well. No more chest beating from "the six" until the Leafs draft Matthews.

At the end of the day, the NBA rewards elite level talent. If you don't have a Lebron/Curry or the like, you will not win a title.

PS> met PK at the game yesterday :)

Miami`s reserves could barley play in a pick up league on Thursday night . Out goes JV in comes Bizz and they dont miss a beat . When you have to rely on Amare and Joe Johnson to win your done.

How the hell do you need 14 games to dispose of Indy and Miami , those should of been 4 max 5 games , those teams have D LEAGUERS minus a few players.

Good thing is they have one of the brightest gm`s in the game unlike collar neck Colangelo who only knew how to patch and put bandaids on problems.

I hope Majuri doesnt get sucked into maxing out DD who is the new version of Rudy " Pad my stats" Gay , who played inefficient basketball.

Spotted someone yesterday wearing NBA gear. Again, not Raptors. This time it was someone wearing a vintage Vancouver Grizzlies cap

Another pathetic failure by OKC. Choked away a 3-1 series lead.

As an aside, I saw a guy walking down the street wearing a Kobe Bryant Lakers jersey today. Still waiting to see anyone wearing any Raptors gear.

Very few people would even care enough to respond to such a poll since it's about a sport no one pays attention to. All it proves is that a majority of the minuscule percentage of the overall population that bothers to watch basketball thinks they like the Raptors. Some of them might even be able to name one of the players if you gave them a couple of hints.
