I took the match off mute. The announcer was saying that maybe the crowd would get behind Azarenka more if she stopped making a lot of that noise.

I think it is way worse when you are playing an opponent who is fairly quiet. Fans start to believe that the groaning is some sort of intimidation tactic like when apes bang their chest.

She doesn't need to worry about the crowd getting behind her. Those grunts are part of her very successful career.

Azarenka and S. Williams have done well in their careers so one would think they don't give a shit about what people say but I have heard both say after losses and tournament victories that they can't understand why the crowd sometimes doesn't like them. There are other champions that rule for eons and don't get booed by some fans.

I think crowds genuinely dislike Azarenka for her grunting and childish behaviour on court... I'm not gonna touch re: Serena.

The grump is out so that is all that matters.

Funny how his back wasn't a problem in his first four matches but when it was clear he was going to lose yesterday, he started clutching at it.
