OT: The News Thread

The town is creeping up the mountain. People never learn. I read somewhere that when it did go off and buried Pompeii and Herculano that it had been dormant for 900 years.

Nature >

Nature always wins. People amaze me how they dare her. Let's rebuild that house the last hurricane destroyed right on the same beach, and see which hurricane will take it out again. Stupid.

Yep, people who think they're smarter and better than everyone else are very punchable.

I'm quite punchable, for instance.

Interesting approach ... alienate virtually all of your voters and then cow to the right wing nuts 'cause if you don't you're going to be obliterated at the polls.

I'd say that I'll be pleased when they get taken out, but it's going to create an even worse two party system.

The centre unravels in hard times. Especially if they are unprincipled gits with no convincing narratives.

The one who needs to get put to pasture is Merkel. The Germans have driven the bus off the cliff.

Unfortunately, when the centre unravels in recent times everything lurches to the right. Ed Milliband ain't exactly a left winger, despite his bloodlines. And, of course, that party one-upped Thatcher's at every turn last time they were in power.

Panic sets in, and squeaky bums seem to drift right regardless of what the evidence says:

Few, if any, have the cojones. FDR was not perfect, but he still needed a lot of guts to (eventually) go against the the grain. Even then, he took some convincing, could have gone further, and made mistakes.
