Merkel has been in power for a long time. She’s viewed as stable genius outside of Germany because key allies appear to have gone bananas, but she has plenty of internal detractors. All politics is local.

True, but as long as she's sidelined, and three months with no government is a long time, I don't think she has any weigh outside of Germany.

Which leaves

Britain- May, in a bit of a cluster right now

America- Trump, completely pulling out of most world affairs, really big incredible dysfunctional cluster.

Germany- Merkel, unable to actually form a government as of right now, might not be able to, in the penalty box.

That leave who to carry the mantel of leader of the free world at the moment?

If it's a G7 Country that leaves Japan, Canada, Italy, and France.

Japan-Abe, doesn't aspire for much outside of it's immediate neighbourhood.

Italy-Gentiloni, Italy is always on a slow boil of cluster.

That leave Canada and France.

I would say the edge goes to France right now.

Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple are the leaders of the free world.

google and amazon have given me all sorts of freedom, tbh. any piece of information, any product, all at my fingertips. for free. amazon actually saves me money for the trouble.

whether they turn that against me going forward I guess is a question though.

This is one of the best 4th Am. stories I've read in a long time: Judges, prosecutors, cops said it's not an invasion of privacy to go through someone's trash. So the local paper did. wweek.com/portland/artic…

Weird the amount of personal surveillance and data tracking we are willing to it up with from completely unaccountable corporate entities compared to democraticly elected governments.

British cabinet ministers are begging German corporate sector for help on post Brexit trade deal and to save their financial sector.

Britain is “exiting” all right...
