OT: The News Thread

Twitter's inability to make a profit has been a long-running joke. I agree it shouldn't be his top priority, and probably isn't.

it's more than not turning a profit; it also failed in growing the user base significantly, failed to add innovative features, etc
Wall Street doesn't care about profit if you show growth

they had four years where the most important person on the planet was using the platform to enact policy...and the business barely grew

their last CEO was the founder who came back but didn't leave his other CEO job at Square

I don't really see the point of Musk doing this to begin with but he did it. So I'm with CH1 in that we just have to wait and see what happens. Speculation is kind of pointless in this case since we have no idea. Twitter could remain pretty much the same, or this could be the opening scene of the next Bond movie.

twitter made Jack a very rich man. he laughed all the way to the bank.

it was unique and refreshing that he was happy with that money, and didn't feel the need to ruin twitter with profitability scams. that's what made twitter different. hopefully the richest man in the world doesn't feel the need to let it turn into a clickfarm.

Already seeing some of the people I follow delete their accounts. Calm down, folks.
I suspect if you had been targeted by Musk in a previous life for whatever reason your reaction would be closer to the Shaun King's of the world. But I am speculating.

I think it goes back to the point made earlier that if you are someone like us, you're probably fine and unaffected.

But there are 100% black journalists who have communicated with sources via DM that are terrified that this information now all belongs to Elon.
