OT: The News Thread

Rattled.
FACT: "Pierre Poutine" used a Guelph call center that was also utilized by Harper's party several times during that campaign. That strongly suggests ties to the Tories. A virtual smoking gun, as it were.
FACT: After multiple elections, the Tories couldn't turn their minority into a majority. That suggests they had more to gain from screwing with election results than any other party in this past election.
That you're so offended and defensive of these actions is very telling. This deserves the microscope regardless of which party did it. ****ing with democracy is something we need to stop no matter what.
"A virtual smoking gun, as it were."

haha. You're such a fvcking mental midget.

And Elections Canada disagrees with your second "fact". Check it out.

Cool.

Is it ok if the rest of us discuss the story? Will your sensitive political leanings allow us that? Hell I voted conservative and I will be pissed if they betrayed that trust with some illegal shenanigans.

So would I, but the amount of sore loserish caterwauling and whining from the usual sources is incredibly predictable and irritating. The left needs to understand that they lost the election and that acting as the Opposition does not entail trying to torpedo the incumbent, democratically-elected Government at every opportunity.

If that was the case then how come there are no reported irregularities in ridings such as Brampton-Springdale that were (1.) Liberal strongholds that the Tories wanted to desperately take back (2.) the margin of victory was perilously close?

See I normally agree with this - but this story deserves to be followed.

There was nobody stupid enough to risk breaking the law in those ridings? And do we have all the information about all the reported irregularities in an on-going investigation? Why would the RCMP or Elections Canada simply divulge all the info they have while the investigation is still proceeding?
The little bit we DO know came mostly from the opposition members who told the media about the reports they were aware of.
You're drawing a conclusion from incomplete data.

So they would risk all of this blow-back and outrage in ridings that they were either guaranteed to win or had no chance to win?

That makes zero strategic sense.

Gleefully posting about the death of a 43 year old man to natural causes? That's low and sad, no matter how much you dislike the mans political leanings.

Guessing you missed that it was a satirical take on Breitbart himself, who used some of those exact words to describe Ted Kennedy the day after he died.

It's been 9 months since the election occured. Why is all of this coming out now? I don't doubt for a second that alot of the people "speaking up" now are not all 100% legitimate.

Elections Canada, after every single election, does a full thorough review and evaluates any issues or irregularities. There 200 page report, released earlier this year states this...

“There was no conduct reported that would bring into question the integrity of the election result overall or the result in a particular riding. Although misconduct was reported in several ridings, there is no complaint that it affected the final result. There is some speculation in the media that the dirty tricks may have affected the result in some close contests.”

I love that quote cork. Basically there was some shenanigans but its ok, nothing to worry about.
Elections Canada has never shied away from taking it to the Conservatives. Not sure why they wouldn't go for it in this case if there was enough merit to the allegations.

What that quote addresses is that there were some shenanigans, just like there always is in an election that spans across a country as big as Canada.

No I realize...it's just we have let it become common and most people don't even bat an eye.

Well, there are always cases of people pulling out signs, damaging signs, misleading phone calls, putting up signs infront of polling stations, canvasing on election day, ect.

Alot of people are okay with fighting dirty. This story has taken on a life of it's own and there appears to be very little merit behind it...so far.
