OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

Giant red herring that will likely be justified by some fascist agent provocateurs planted by law enforcement agencies.

What exactly are all these people so afraid to face? Seriously, a billion for "a bunch of red-bandana wearing, mcdonald's window-busting, RBC-bombing, sandal-wearing a$$holes"

Looks like a giant gift to security companies and police unions.

You are aware of the damage that has been caused at previous G20s right?

For some insight into the fairly public plans protestors are making:

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/tor...-a-guide-to-who-you-ll-find-on-the-barricades fire.works.for.prisons is the main scary one mentioned there, but obviously it's not an exhaustive list of causes.

The Ontario Coalition Against Poverty is going to be one of the biggest protest groups, and it's motto is "We believe in the power of resistance".

That said, there was definetely some pork in the security budget, not so much in terms of corruption and backdoor dealings as the security officials acting as though they'd been handed blank checks.

Re: OT - The News Thread

i agree entirely. so these self-loathing anarchist punk-scumbags are responsible for a good part of that $1bil cost for security.

the billion dollar boondogle for this summit put forth by your boy Harper is ridiculous. The Olympic security cost less for God's sake. There is NO way it should have cost THAT much.

Because an Olympic luger is going to draw the same security need as a Prime Minister.

Good logic.

Re: OT - The News Thread

No mention of Joren Van Der Sloot beating a girl to death in Peru?

Burn in hell mother****er. This dude is in for a rude awakening. This girl's father is a big deal in Peru, so there is no way he won't pay for what he's done.

It's actually a really terrible story, even though the likes of Nancy Grace, etc.. are just sensationalizing it.

He allegedlt broke her neck, beat her so bad that an eyeball was hanging out of the socket, and smothered her with a shirt.

This dude is defective. He needs to be taken out. It's a shame that a 2nd girl had to die so horribly, and I really don't think that fact has had enough air time. He beat a girl to death. I mean you get mad at someone, and you hit them....that is one thing, but to actually beat someone to death..wow. This dude is a ****ing monster. He needs to be locked up in a hellhole as he will be.

Watch some youtube videos about Lurigancho prison. That is where this mother****er will likely end up, and it isn't a nice place.

Sayonara cabrone.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Yeah, apparently he got mad because she looked him up on his laptop and found out who he was. The guy is clearly mentally unstable, and a murderer of at least 2 people.

Man arrested with weapons in Toronto

Visual artist Kristen Peterson, 37, was charged Thursday with possession of an explosive device and possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose after Toronto police executed additional search warrants Wednesday in the townships of Tiny and Lake of Bays, Ont.

Peterson's common-law spouse, Byron Sonne, also 37, was charged Wednesday with six offences: possession of explosive for an unlawful purpose, intimidation of a justice system participant by threat, intimidation of a justice system participant by watch and beset, mischief, attempted mischief and possession of dangerous weapons.

It's pretty smart really; Stage these events that lure the "troublemaker" crowd, get them on file, maybe arrest a few...meanwhile you're giving the less motivated sheep a way to let off steam.
Brilliant.

Re: OT - The News Thread

The Toronto Globe and Mail reported Thursday Sonne had expressed a desire on the Internet to test G20 security by using explosive precursor chemicals in some manner. He is charged with obtaining the same compound as that used in the unsuccessful 2001 "shoe bomb" attempt on an airliner.

What an idiot... With a billion spent on security you can bet your ass that crazy retards making threats online are being looked at. Way to draw attention to yourself.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Guess how much the G20 security bill was for ... London.

$12 million.

What about Pittsburg last year?

$30 million

Toronto ... $1.1 billion.

I always laugh when people think Conservatives are fiscally responsible. Have you seen the price tag for the utterly unnecessary and draconian crime bills they have?

Oh to be a developer of private prisons during Tory rule ...

Ahh. Hanging on every word of the parliamentary budget officer and CBC, I see.

Not surprising.

And yes, it does cost more money to keep prisoners in prison. Imagine that!

Re: OT - The News Thread

I, for one, do not mind my tax dollars going to pay all of the nice, friendly policemen and soldiers. It stimulates the economy! Better spending it on something as warm and fuzzy as security, rather than pissing it away on carbon credits, eHealth, a long gun registry or the Liberal party.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I like the new powers of arrest these police have. Within 5 meters of the security zone, you are subject to questioning and search. You also must provide ID if asked.

Police given sweeping G20 powers: reports
Being near G20 security fence can get you arrested

Police at the G20 summit have been granted special powers by the Ontario government that allows them to arrest people who come too close to the security perimeter, according to local media reports.

The powers granted in the Public Works Protection Act passed through Ontario's cabinet without debate on June 2, CBC reported.

The powers took affect on Monday and will be in place until Monday, June 28, CBC reported.

The Toronto Star is reporting the powers were provided to police at the request of Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.

Under the new law, anyone who comes within five metres of the security fence in the downtown core must provide police with their name, identification and the their reason for being in the area, CBC reports. The person is also subject to a police search.

If the person refuses to identify themselves, they can be taken into custody and fined up to $500.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Nothing to argue with there...

Feel free to protest, just stay 5 meters away from the security zone.

Re: OT - The News Thread

You think it's only going to apply to protesters?

Maybe it's a ploy to recoup some of the costs....$500 fine per charge....lol.
