Fred la marmotte, Canada's Punxsutawney Phil, made his weather prediction every Groundhog Day, but Fred had "no vital signs" before this year's event.

I was always told that Canada's equivalent to Punxsutawney Phil was Wiarton Willie. I'd never heard of this Fred la Marmotte character until he was reported dead.

I think each province has their own progosticator. Nova Scotia has Shubenacadie Sam, I think Alberta’s is Balzac Billy and one of the Maritime provinces has a lobster tasked to predict the coming of Spring.
