OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

They want it to be punitive for competitive reasons. As in, it's tough to negotiate TV/Content deals when 1/3rd the teams in your league aren't even trying to be competitive and are incentivized to put a shitty product on the court.
True but the worst team and 16 would have very similar odds

Now a decent team at lets say 12 can easily win the lottery , no need to even try to be shit

The underlying idea is that being the worst team is bad and you should be working hard to avoid that, not embracing it as an organizational goal.

What the NBA is trying to do here is push rebuilding teams into actually team building instead of mindlessly sucking dick for 5 years to accumulate as much young talent as possible before even trying to get good. Pushing them to go out and sign veterans to round out your roster and not running 20-23 yr olds 1-10 to get caved in every night all year. When you have a good rotation vet on your roster not just punting him at the deadline for whatever you can get because you're now incentivized to not be shit down the stretch.
