OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

wait why would JV play in Greece instead of Denver?

From what I've heard/read

- They offered him the rough equivalent 4M USD x 3, but with euroleague teams handling your taxes, it's about the the same in take home pay as he would have made over the rest of his 2 yr NBA deal, so he's not really losing out financially if he intended on retiring at the end of the respective contracts anyway

- He apparently isn't happy with being moved around so much, and has 2 small children. That's 3 NBA cities he's played for in the last 18 months, Denver would have been 4, and there was an expectation that he was going to be a victim to cap shuffling by Denver again next summer, and would have been off to a 5th team within a few years. He doesn't want to move his family around like that and would rather just go back to Europe.

- Doesn't really care about title chasing as a backup, and gets an opportunity to go back to Europe and compete for a Euroleague title for a powerhouse program as a core starting player. This tweaks the nipple of Americans when they hear it, but US "world championships" aren't considered world championships outside of their league as much as you'd think. Euroleague Championship is a bigger deal in Europe than the NBA championship is.

That's a good move for everyone but Utah.

This is why I always say it's dumb to think about tanking. Unless you have absolutely nothing in your program right now that can win games, how are you going to compete against teams who are willing to trade legit NBA starters for a 2nd rounder just to not have him help them win a few more games and fuck up the tank?

in Miami, I'm not sure how Norm and Herro work together but in theory this makes them better. In LA, they were running some dreadful options out there at the 4 last year, so Collins is a nice upgrade there. Bogdan is a replacement for Norm of sorts. Not as good as Norm, but on balance they're better because they don't have to use DJJ at the 4 anymore. This probably means moving Harden to SG anyway and starting Dunn. Bogey off of the bench.

From the Clippers side again....it sounds like Beal wants to go to the Clippers if/when the Suns buy him out, and CP3 is really likely to sign there as well.

C - Zubac
PF - Collins
SF - Kawhi
SG - Beal
PG - Harden
6 - Dunn
7- Bogey
8 - CP3
9 - Lopez
10 - Batum
11 - DJJ

First of all, that team would win 70 games in 2020.

But even in 2026, if the Clippers actually fucking load manage and everyone is healthy to start the playoffs, I wouldn't want to see them. That's some old man energy that could put anyone out of a 7 game series. Dunno if they can do it 4 times, but there's no one in the league that can't beat 4 times out 7.
