OT: Vacations

So need some suggestions from the experienced travellers to the other side of the world. Any tips for making the flights more bearable? I have a 15 hr flight to Hong Kong and 10 hr to Aukland in a 6 weeks. I am flying premium economy, so that should help I'd think but I generally lose my mind on 7-8 hr flights already.

One time on a work trip to Europe I got upgraded to First Class. I was the only person in that cabin so I had my own personal flight attendant, serving me nice food/cognac/extra pillows/whatever. My seat reclined into a bed.

I didn’t sleep a wink.

That’s when I decided to ask my doctor about lorazepam. It’s not perfect and there’s probably better stuff now…. but ever since then, I’ve been able to grab a few hours of sleep during an overnight flight, which is just enough for me not to feel completely useless when I land.

What i typically do...

-Compression socks
-bring a pillow/blanket/hoodie that makes you feel comfortable
-try to eat and sleep on current schedule
-get the wifi and catch up on work/movies/tv
-get up and move around every 1-2 hours

Bring kids
You'll be too worried about them to worry about yourself

It's science

But seriously. Binge a show with real headphones, read books, play Nintendo switch.

ooh the switch is a good idea. I'm not a huge TV guy so I generally get bored with TV.

Omg I’ve done the HK to Toronto. It’s fucking brutal.

Word to the wise : wear your seatbelt the whole fucking flight. There’s brutal turbulence. Also learn mandarin and Cantonese so you can understand the frantic in air announcements when nobody heeds the seatbelt warning and - not only that - walks around when the seatbelt light is on.
