while I understand why people are interested in whether nuclear breakout was imminent (since it was the justification provided for the pre-emptive strike), can someone explain to me how you can argue that Iran's uranium enrichment far beyond civilian levels was never designed to be part of a weapons program?
if that's true, why bother wasting the time enriching beyond 4%?
Iran is zero doubt a bad actor but really have trouble trusting Netanyahu and Trump too.
One of your best posts. Good jobJust to play devil's advocate for a moment, there are scientific reasons for producing HEU including certain types of test reactors (for example, the nuclear reactors that power the US super carriers & submarines require 93% enrichment). Also, from a negotiations standpoint, Iran has been trying to get sanctions lifted for a long ass time. Having something to give away for that (like they did originally with the JCPOA) is a better position to be in than not having something to give away.
I'm obviously not suggesting that they should be allowed to have the type of enriched material necessary to build out that type of reactor for pretty obvious reasons. But there are legitimate scientific reasons to go beyond 5%.
The underlying problem here imo is that this was already a controlled issue, and we're watching as the 2 architects who tore down that situation say "trust me bro" as they try their hand at regime change. If we were to make a list of people who we least wanted to reshape the middle east, I'm pretty sure Trump and Bibi would be dead nuts at the bottom of that list. This is almost really guaranteed to go very poorly over the medium and long term and we're going to be dealing with the ramifications long after those two septugenarian criminals are dead and buried.
Yeah would be great if the regime fell (because they clearly suck).....other than the fact that regime change kinda never works. At least when it comes from the outside.
I trust them, bro. You should too. The people of Iran don't want those shitheads in charge either. And they wouldn't switch them out for other shitheads. If they can actually get this regime out, it'll usher in something good.Yeah would be great if the regime fell (because they clearly suck).....other than the fact that regime change kinda never works.
