OT: World Politics

I'm actually in favour of unilaterally recognizing a Palestinian state (although it has to be Israel that does it obviously), as the biggest obstical to the two state solution has always been Palestinians and Netanyahu and the hardliners refusing to accept the deal.
Fixed.

The only ones wanting to avoid a 2 state solution are raw 2 parties who stand to lose the most if peace suddenly breaks.out: Hamas and Bibi. Like Trump, the primary motivation for them to keep pursuing the annihilation of the other side is that it is their only hope for not being killed, in the case of Hamas, or imprisoned, in Bibi's case.

I do. Israel made all kinds of concessions, seemingly to get Trump's help with Iran. Would it have led to permanently ending the war? I doubt it.

But they were definitely working on a deal and now there is no hope for a deal. That much can't be denied.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

I don’t think Trump or Bibi have any interest in stopping the bullets & bombs until Gaza has been thoroughly ethnically cleansed, and sweet new Israeli settlements and Trump-branded seaside resorts can be built on top of the bones of Palestinian children.

Hamas likewise are happy to see as many Gazans as possible continue to die, as long as it serves to worsen international opinion of Israel & acts as a recruiting tool for anti-Israel jihadists.

Also think it’s silly to think Canada’s stance on this will move things in any particular direction. We’re not that important.

oh noes....not hypersonic missiles

A few things

- Ballistic missiles were already and have always been "hypersonic" by the definition the Kremlin uses for the Oreshnik. It is not a "hypersonic" missile by the modern definition of the term in the weapons industry for multiple reasons.
- Experts are pretty sure that the new Aegis system can intercept it without any mods and already have an "Aegis Ashore" system available off the shelf for anyone worried about the Oreshnik.

Exactly. This is no different than when France and Britain argued that if they let Hitler annex the Sudetenland he'd stop his aggression. Dictators dont want to be appeased. They want to he surrendered to. And they don't just want this region or that region either. They want everything.

Putin doesn't want Crimea or Donbass. He wants all of Ukraine. And if Ukraine surrendered tomorrow, by Tuesday Putin would want Poland. The only thing he will ever understand or respect is a bullet in his brain.
