With the resurrection of this thread, a few things of note in combat sports:
- GGG looked human against a very good challenger in Daniel Jacobs, but won a (slightly controversial) unanimous decision, snapping his 23 fight KO streak. In related news, Canela is still ducking him and DLH is still rationalizing like a bitch at every opportunity. It really is everything wrong with boxing and one of the few things right about UFC all rolled up in a package. If there's a compelling fight to be made in the UFC, it gets made. If there's a compelling fight to be made in boxing, the higher draw of the two fighters dicks around to squeeze out extra money or wait until their opponent isn't in their prime anymore.
- Anthony Joshua vs Klitchko is April 29....maybe the first really compelling fight the heavyweight division has seen in a long time (depending on how you feel about Tyson Fury). This is probably too early in Joshua's career to fight a prime aged Klitchko...but 40 years old isn't prime aged and he's ****ing demo'd everyone else, so this is what's left out there for him to do in the division (again, depending on how you feel about Fury)
-Aldo and Holloway is a really intriguing, and potentially awesome fight scheduled for 212 in June....almost makes up for Khabib/Ferguson not happening (that fight is going to be sick)
-Cormier/Johnson might be interesting but probably won't be for the same reason GSP is impressive but boring as ****. If Johnson doesn't sort out his take down defence, Cormier will just wrestle-**** him to death for 5 rounds and win a decision. Johnson's power is insane though, so he just needs to land one
-Mousasi/Weidman might be an interesting as **** fight too coming up at 210. Mousasi's kickboxing is legit.
-Wonderboy/Woodley 2 was boringish to watch for a casual fight fan, though I somewhat fall into the Joe Rogan camp on it...2 really evenly matched fighters who both did excellent jobs managing space and working within their tools and strategies to try to control the fight.
