OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Yeah it doesn't make sense why she planned to stand up with Holly and Nunes. Both are beasts, and Ronda can't strike with them. It was her grappling that made her dominant.

But then again who knows what their game plan actually was. She does not handle getting punched in the face well. Thats twice in a row she couldn't fight back from a big shot. Just opened up and get hit more.
There is just no improvement in her standup game at all. I dont expect her to beat them in standup but she has to learn how to survive with them till she can lock up.

Her coaching in striking is just terrible.

Oh yeah he's a terrible coach. It was the exact same fight, and she had a year to prepare. She should have dumped him a long time ago but all that winning got in the way. He didn't teach her judo though.

Yeah, it's like watching teenage boys fight.

Even Dana White wasn't sold on women's MMA before ronda.

And now she's gone, a glass jaw with a playbook on how to beat her.

If anyone thinks casual MMA followers are going to be watching to see who beats nunes they must be crazy.

Women's UFC was born with ronda and I think it just died alongside her career.

Ronda will never be seen again in my opinion. She's done. No class sore loser.

Look at a guy like Dominick Cruz in his post fight presser. This is a guy with class. This is a guy i have confidence in coming back and being better.

I didn't see this fight, but I did see the Holly Holm fight.

She did try to take it to the mat, several times. She almost got the arm bar on Holm too. The game plan most certainly was not for her to go toe to toe and trade bombs with either of them.

But, surely she could take Floyd :rolleyes(2):

I'm glad she's done. Most overrated fighter in history. The idea that she could take men on and win was ridiculous.

Hell, cyborg looks like a dude and wouldn't stand a chance.

I have since seen the fight, and by fight, I mean 48 seconds of Ronda getting punched in the face.

Beautiful.

Nunes is a dude though.

Wrestlemania one week away. Card looks pretty underwhelming and also looks like it will be Undertaker's last match

With the resurrection of this thread, a few things of note in combat sports:

- GGG looked human against a very good challenger in Daniel Jacobs, but won a (slightly controversial) unanimous decision, snapping his 23 fight KO streak. In related news, Canela is still ducking him and DLH is still rationalizing like a bitch at every opportunity. It really is everything wrong with boxing and one of the few things right about UFC all rolled up in a package. If there's a compelling fight to be made in the UFC, it gets made. If there's a compelling fight to be made in boxing, the higher draw of the two fighters dicks around to squeeze out extra money or wait until their opponent isn't in their prime anymore.

- Anthony Joshua vs Klitchko is April 29....maybe the first really compelling fight the heavyweight division has seen in a long time (depending on how you feel about Tyson Fury). This is probably too early in Joshua's career to fight a prime aged Klitchko...but 40 years old isn't prime aged and he's ****ing demo'd everyone else, so this is what's left out there for him to do in the division (again, depending on how you feel about Fury)

-Aldo and Holloway is a really intriguing, and potentially awesome fight scheduled for 212 in June....almost makes up for Khabib/Ferguson not happening (that fight is going to be sick)

-Cormier/Johnson might be interesting but probably won't be for the same reason GSP is impressive but boring as ****. If Johnson doesn't sort out his take down defence, Cormier will just wrestle-**** him to death for 5 rounds and win a decision. Johnson's power is insane though, so he just needs to land one

-Mousasi/Weidman might be an interesting as **** fight too coming up at 210. Mousasi's kickboxing is legit.

-Wonderboy/Woodley 2 was boringish to watch for a casual fight fan, though I somewhat fall into the Joe Rogan camp on it...2 really evenly matched fighters who both did excellent jobs managing space and working within their tools and strategies to try to control the fight.

Beauty. I love this thread.

I'm excited for the Shevchenko-Nunes fight. Should be an excellent tilt. Shevchenko looks like she's grown her ground game after tapping a pretty good Pena.

Wonderboy-Woodley 2 was a snoozefest. I get it from both sides. I watch fighting for entertainment. I wasn't entertained by this chess match from a fight standpoint. At this point it'll be interesting to see what they do with Wonderboy. Rumors of Nick Diaz potentially getting the #1 contenders fight could get interesting though i'm not sure what we'll see from him after this long layoff.

Joanna vs Andrade will be good an interesting fight. Andrade has looked good since dropping weightclass. Joanna has been a monster in that division. I still like Joanna in this one.

I don't know what to make of the Middleweight Division. With GSP coming back to the UFC and getting Bisping right away causes some interesting matchups in the coming months. I hope to see GSP back and better than ever but he's been off for a damn long time so you never know. Plus jumping weight classes... i just don't know what we'll see. I kind of expect him to beat Bisping but then really have a hard time against a Rockhold/Souza.

With "money fights" being the new rage i wouldn't be surprised if this is a setup for GSP-Spider.

As for Mania, its looking like trash. Only match i want to see is Wyatt-Orton. I suppose Shane-Styles could be entertaining. I don't care for Goldberg-Lesnar.

Yeah, it's tough keeping it active because of how irregular notable events are (I don't have the time to follow Belator, etc, etc, etc and really only follow a handful of boxers these days as well), but when there's stuff to talk about it's definitely fun.

Yeah, you have to figure it's almost tournament time in the division. I don't think there's a lot of desire to see the 3rd installment between Woodley & Wonderboy yet, and I think Maia has been promised the next shot at the belt (if he beats Masvidal). I doubt Lawler would want Wonderboy immediately after his return though that's the kind of name Wonderboy should want to face. Someone who builds his resume and puts him in a place where a 3rd tilt with Woodley is necessary to clear up the picture in the division. Maybe a name like Cerrone?

GSP probably wrestle-****s Bisping to death for 5 rounds. The guy was and likely still is a physical freak. He's not going to stand with Bisping and trade. Bisping dodged a bullet though imo, Yoel Romero probably would have beat him ****ing senseless.

As for who he fights afterwards....it would have to be Romero, no? GSP should do his best to duck the shit out of Romero, just too strong with hyper elite wrestling, but I don't see how the next shot doesn't go to Romero...this one should have gone to Romero, but GSP is GSP and Dana likes money.

I kind of hope not. That's a fight that I didn't think GSP was big enough or good enough for when both fighters were in prime, and find even less compelling with Silva on the wrong side of 40 and looking, for obvious reasons, a lot less like Spider in his last fight (he looked surprisingly good against Cormier on super short notice when they fought some months back though, and had Cormier in trouble once or twice when the fight was in it's rare standing moments).

But it would be good for PPV buys so Dana will probably look to make it.

Maia is deserving of a title shot but for whatever reason he's just not getting one. He's in tough facing Masvidal. Maia is turning 40 years old this year so not much time left for him to get a shot. I actually like Masvidal winning this one.

This is where i think if GSP wins against Bisping we see him drop weight class and take on Woodley to give the Middleweight division some time to settle the number 1 contender while not losing the GSP money train. Romero up there. Souza facing off against Whittaker should be a quality fight. Rockhold coming back. Mousasi-Weidman coming up.

Lets be honest, Bisping isn't the top of the class here. Right place right time and he became champion. GSP shouldn't be going up against Romero or Souza imo. If GSP wins against Bisping he'll be able to "duck" the division for a bit to let it set a few PPV while he goes for a welterweight title shot. If Bisping wins well we'll see a quick turnaround and Romero gets his shot.

Its all about money. Unfortunately the best ppv matchups aren't the best fights for fans to actually watch.

yeah, 7 fight win streak is definitely deserving of a shot...but I think you hit it with him almost being 40. Not a lot of time to market him and make him a notable champion. The UFC is starting to pick up some of boxing's bad habits when it comes to match making

Yeah, that's probably about right. GSP would be surrounded by monsters if he stayed in MW. Probably much easier to cut weight and go down and fight Woodley, Wonderboy, Lawler, etc. Or even wrestle **** McGregor to death at 170.

Yeah, that all makes sense. If GSP wins, he probably vacates that belt anyway unless if he goes straight at Woodley to hold both at once.

Its all about money. Unfortunately the best ppv matchups aren't the best fights for fans to actually watch.

UFC built it's empire by resisting this shit though and they're starting to weaken it by doing it. They surpassed boxing in large part due to their ability to unilaterally make great fights....Killing the goose that lays the golden egg is always a possibility.

Undertaker calls it a career last night and the Hardyz are back. Biggest highlights of a meh Mania

Daniel Cormier misses weight by 1.2 pounds, leave the stage, comes back and miraculously makes weight.

Looked a hell of a lot like he was leaning on the towel pretty hard...After Khabib missing weight, I could see Dana giving the wink-wink-nudge to make sure this fight happens.
