OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

In fairness the dude has trained in boxing his whole life. He was a junior boxing champ, and spars with championship level fighters. He is a pro fighter with one of the better stand up games in MMA.

Obviously you can't compare it to Mayweathers experience, but its not like he never boxed until 6 months ago like these guys who try to go from boxing/wresting to mma.

I'm sure he can step into pro boxing no problem. Guys like the Diaz bros too, who spar with Andre Ward. Again, stepping in with Mayweather is whole other level though.

He won an under 16 boxing title, but it wasn't a national level championship or anything of that type...so I don't think I'm selling the quality of his boxing short at all despite his level of mma striking. Mma striking is horrible technically compared to boxing. I don't think I'm being unfair by calling his level of boxing skills as that of a journeyman amateur. If this was a boxing match between conor and a golden gloves level amateur, I'd put money on the boxer still.

Fwiw, Diaz is probably not golden gloves level and his boxing is better than conors

He is a pro fighter and he does know how to box.

Maybe Mayweather can tie him up all night like he did with Pacquiao and win but I really doubt he's going to destroy Conor.

Floyd doesn't really destroy anyone anymore. What he will do is punch conor in the face a bunch of times, not get hit by anything, and stop conor by taking him into deep water and gassing him out

Mayweather either knocks him out, or wins 9+ rounds convincingly....

I would comfortably go with scenario B. Anyone can get tagged but I dont see Mayweather being the one to do it

Ya it's tough set and punch when doing so gets you taken down or in an arm bar

macgregors only real shot is to use his quickness to get inside early and hurt flour otherwise Floyd will do what he did to everybody once he hit 145. Neutralize with the jab and cut inside to slow them down. I

I think if he KO's him, its a late round stoppage where Conor is just exhausted. Thats why I included the possibility.

That's more or less exactly it. I touched on it in my first post about this. MMA striking has to be different than boxing....you're worried about a lot more than just getting punched in the face.

Kovalev-Ward II tonight....

Some controvery during the Rigondeaux fight....it looks like they're about the making a ****ing mess of the decision.

No contest is the only answer here.

So for anyone who didn't see...Rigondeaux out boxes Flores all round and puts pressure on him at the end of the round hitting him a few times. Just before the bell they trade pretty wildly, and Rigondeaux hits Flores illegally a few times (holding the head and throwing a few hooks), but releases as the refs is starting to step in and throws a final hook pretty clearly after the bell and hits Flores. Flores stands for a moment and then basically fakes being murdered by the punch (assuming that he's going to win on DQ)....the ref manages to **** the whole thing up, looked like he was going to DQ Rigondeaux and finally decided on a knockout somehow.

Should have been a no contest imo, but it serves Flores right for trying to milk it.

Fwiw, Rigondeaux is a ****ing magician and a joy to watch.

Shambolic job by the ref in Ward-Kovalev....repeated shots to the dick uncalled, and a really questionable stoppage imo. Call it a knockdown if you want, but a stoppage over that?

Former UFC fighter Tim Hughes killed in a boxing match Friday night.

Dude he lost to was a former 1st ov cfl pick who had a drug pronlem and landed in jail... probably not going to put him in a great mental state.
Hughes fwiw has the UFC recorded for quickest ko - he lost in 7 seconds. Boxing on 2 wk prep vs a 250 lb former defensive linema. Should not have been allowed to happen

So $100 Million payday for Conor to lose at boxing....how much for Floyd to try MMA?

A lot more than that.

If Floyd wasn't 40 and had a bit if time to spend to learn take down defence, spend a few years getting a purple belt in BJJ so he wouldn't get mauled on the ground and understood how to manage posture to defend ground and pound...sure, but he's not.

Yeah, it's a joke that the fight was sanctioned. He had been KO'd/TKO'd something like 8 times in the last 2 years.

They also didn't have the 3 knockdown rule. He was knocked down 4 times in the first round.

He was also glassy eyed more than once and was just getting punched in the head with little retaliation or defence.

Ref clearly let the fight go too long.

Name was Hague not Hughes. Sad story all the same that should really come down on the shoulders of the commission for letting him fight. Their regulations shouldn't have had him in the ring until April 18 due to previous KOs

Matt Hughes former UFC WW champ is also in hospital and his truck was hit by a train. He's in stable condition but still not awake

Not to mention that he looks like he was in less than tip-top physical condition in this fight.

Especially when compared to his opponent:

I counted 1 in the last exchange. The previous shots were Kovalev crying wolf imo. Borderline shots on a REALLY high waistline. There were a few close shots but no true low blow beyond the one shot in the final exchange when Kovalev turtled against the ropes.

Ward was an animal.

I want to see Rigondeaux/Lomachenko

+1

Flores had no business in the ring with Rigondeaux. I don't even feel bad for him. Clear sell job gone wrong for him. Lomachenko is the guy we want to see. We'll see if he gets ducked or the "anybody, anytime" was all for show.

As for Conor-Mayweather... well this fight is a giant waste of time. An entertaining waste of time so of course i will watch it. Mayweather should dummy Mac pretty easily. I'm tempted to throw my money in the garbage and bet on Mac just for shits if he were to get lucky.

Fight of the year coming up though. Canelo GGG is <333
