OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Wilder - Joshua will be THE fight to watch. Wilder proved even more what kind of animal he is in terms of power. Sloppy for sure but if those hands touch you...night night.

Yeah, even last night Ortiz controlled the pace for most of the fight but all that it took was one partially clean right hand to change things. Same thing could easily happen against AJ. Though I don't think AJ misses the opportunity to put Wilder away that Ortiz had.

Cyborg destroyed that Russian chick. I hate Cyborg but shes a beast. I seriously can't tell if she's a man or not. Adam's apple, jawline, neck girth. Steroids and test boosts for sure throughout her career. I can't wait til she meets her match though it seems as if that won't happen EVER.

Yeah, Cyborg has some significant chemical enhancements in her past, no ****ing doubt. I wonder if someone who can change levels on Cyborg (like the russian kind of did by accident while trying to avoid having her head taken off last night) and score a few take down could beat her though. Her BJJ is legit by all accounts but we never see her work off of her back because she's such a buzzsaw on the feet.

Ortega beating Edgar last night was huge. Edgar was doing great until he got caught with that elbow. Unfortunate but thats the fight game. Ortega-Holloway should be an excellent fight. Holloway probably takes it but Ortega showed last night that he belongs in the convo. I kind of wanted to see Edgar get another shot but it seems like that won't be happening for a while.

Yeah, I figure that could/should be Frankie's last shot at a title before he just gets too old. Ortega looked calm and composed under Frankie's pressure but I look at his track record and I don't see a whole ton of elite level quality. Max has walked through a whose who of the top 5 over the last couple of years, including a pretty impressive showing (considering Conor ****ing merked the rest of 145 at the time) against MacGregor 4-5 years ago

If Ortega can get Max on his back (or to the ground period), he can beat Max. I don't see him beating Max standing up though. Aldo is next level standing up, and Max made him look really bad twice in a row. Max doesn't have to come to Ortega on the standup like Frankie does to be effective. Frankie having to dive in to strike (with that being the best path to victory....his wrestling is kind of useless against Ortega) created that. Up until that counter elbow, Ortega was having a difficult time with the pace and movement Frankie was bringing, Max does that at a higher level, and from range without having to dart into the inside.

I'm definitely looking forward to that one though, it's easily a big enough fight to headline a card.

Besides breaking his foot O'malley showed that hes a promising up and comer. He was destroying whatever his name is. Poor cage awareness did the guy in but he was getting destroyed up to that point on the feet.

Maybe the legit stupidest thing I've seen in in a fight. That's beyond poor cage awareness. But yeah O'Malley looked impressive up until breaking his foot.

I was also interested to see the new hype of MacKenzie Dern. Came away pretty disappointed. She didn't deserve the win and pretty much showed the politics in play of the UFC. They want new stars and although she has a ton of promise, she looked pretty bad on her feet. No doubt her BJJ is excellent but i didn't think she did enough to win the fight.

All in all though it was nice to see some young bloods come in and put on a good show. I did not expect Ortega to win. He was having trouble with the pace of Edgar but played it as smart as you can when fighting a bull like that. Calm and cool until he landed the perfect elbow. O'Malley looks like he could be a contender pretty soon.

Decent card imo. I always tune in to Cyborg fights in the hope that i get to witness her get beat. Not this night.

Thing with fighting Frankie is that Ortega knew that Frankie had to come inside to do damage, and he wasn't remotely concerned about being taken down, so he was able to keep his hands high and look to catch Frankie on the way in. Tbf, I didn't think he'd be able to catch Frankie (Frankie's a really solid boxer) like he did, but style wise Ortega was a tough match up. Everyone else in the division has to be concerned about Frankie taking you down and Yair'ing your face. Ortega is a different animal on the ground though.

GGG-Canelo2 off.....Canelo backed out after his second "failed drug test".

F*ck.

Clenelo

Rumour is GGG trying to get Billy Joe Saunders as the replacement, but yeah. As if Canelo wasn't disliked enough already, even his Mexican fans are disavowing him online.

Between this and the Tony Ferguson injury, this is a shitty, shitty week for fight fans.

Indeed. Was pumped for Ferguson/Khabib. Hope Halloway/Khabib is a good one.

Khabib is going to murder whatever is put in front of him. Hes ruthless

I love Max, love Max a lot.

But I'm already wearing a black armband for the outcome of that fight. Max doesn't one shot guys at 145, and Khabib is more 170 than he is 155, with a block for a chin. Max isn't putting him out with anything other than pure, sustained pressure and precision striking. That shit will take rounds to wear down Khabib and I don't see anyone on the ****ing planet keeping Khabib off of them for "rounds", especially when there is this type of size/strength difference.

Full points for taking the fight on ridiculously short notice against Khabib, but this smells a whole lot like a very legit 5 rounds of Dagastani ass whipping. 155 is a tough division for Max already imo (a lot of guys with the Dim Mak at 155....Alvarez, Lee, Barboza, Tony...even guys like Poirier and Gaethje have stone hands), and Khabib is head and shoulders the best in the division imo.

But this is what makes him Max I guess.

So McGregor went off the deep end today and him and 20 other guys from his entourage stormed the Barclay centre today and attacked the busses with the other fights with anything that wasn't bolted down

One coach was cut pretty bad by a busted window and thug rose was almost hit with a dolly through the window

NYPD have a warrant out for his arrest and his plane is grounded until they find him or he turns himself in

Good job stupid

You’s’ll strip me of nothing you’s do nothing ****s.

what is that aboot?

As for why this happened today, I’m told from multiple sources with knowledge that the motive was “retaliation” after Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team confronted Artem Lobov, one of Conor McGregor’s teammates and best friends, earlier this week.

This is probably the dumbest shit a high level professional fighter has done in decades.

And yes I fully grasp the gravity of that statement.

I hope he enjoyed having more money than god while it lasted, the lawsuits alone are going to cost him a ****ing mint. Consider this for a second, 50 cent had to pay a 5 million dollar civil penalty for leaking a ****ing sex tape.

Chiesa's lawsuit alone is going to blow past that number. When all the stunned **** had to do if he was mad about his boy getting slapped around (after his boy chirped Khabib for whatever reason) was wait for this fight with Max to finish, tell Dana to make the ****ing fight with Khabib and that you want it in Dublin. When Dana comes to after he blacks out due to multiple cash orgasms, the fight gets made for like August-September and you get a chance to knock him out for a massive bag of cash.

But nope, I'm going to get coked out of my tree and throw shit at a bus full of fighters who didn't have shit to do with this. I've got the over/under in lawsuits at 20M, or about what he would have made had he done it the right way.

The video appears less serious than it actually was because it was pure WWE. We've become desensitized to backstage brawls, and attacking limos with garbage cans. But when you consider that this was not staged and a human actually decided to walk into his place of work and do that its just insane. And he didn't even get to confront Khabib.

Apparently, Khabib and his team cornered Artem Lobov and slapped him around a bit at the fighter's hotel earlier in the week.

All this stuff disrespects the sport. They've worked so hard to be seen legitimately. The new owners probably love it.
