The only good parts of them is that they force/encourage the govt to spend money on projects that should have been done before, like the Union Station revamp, for example.
But 2.5B is a ton to spend on something that nobody really cares about. Let other people spend insane amounts for big tournaments, and we should focus on more like the women's world cup. That can't have cost the government a lot overall, and I'm pretty sure that's a better advertising for Canada than the Pan Am games.

One major difference is cities and countries bid on things like Pan am/Olympics etc and national associations (csa) bid on the women's world cup. Also to be fair a main point in hosting women's world cup is to build our case to host the 2026 men's world cup.

I caught a few extra people speaking Spanish on the subway yesterday and this morning, but that's it. The traffic has been pretty good as most people have abandoned the city for vacations or cottage country bu the looks of it.

I checked-out Canada's Game yesterday against Columbia and Us./Cuba at night.
The game with Cuba was amazing in terms of atmosphere. I sat in the Cuba section. Wow. I really felt I was in Cuba. What a blast. Worth it for the atmosphere alone.

Canada is off to a great start, sweeping both the men's and women's Rubgy 7's. I think that is a new(well brought back) sport in the Olympics next year so that bodes somewhat well.

Canada just won gold in Baseball against Team USA in baseball. Massive cluster**** of a mistake by the US pitcher in the 10th. I hate the way they decide things in Extra innings. But it ended up working out fine.
