Playoff GDT: Round 3, Game 1 Canes v. Habs 5/21 8:00

Why is Nikishin not shooting and instead dishing the puck backwards when he's in the slot? It is noticable. He has a bomb! Use it. His wrister isn't bad either. I hope someone is showing him the video and stressing the shot.
 
As terrible as the first period was - and it was truly awful - I thought we still had a chance after a strong 2nd period - but our play in the 3rd was head-scratchingly bad. Not getting a shot on goal until the end of the period sort of typified the Cane's embarrassing performance. I suspect Freddie will still get the start on Saturday. He was left out to dry too many times, but he did little to help bail out his team, too. Credit the Habs for playing a great game and giving us an old-fashioned ass-kicking.
 
We all knew the Canes were not going to win every game in the playoffs. Yes, getting completely blitzed like that in the first period isn't fun, but they only count it as 1 loss fortunately. Hopefully this wakes the Canes up and serves notice that they better tighten up the coverage and not be so sloppy with our possessions.

Flush it and get ready for game 2, but better figure out how to make sure that we are covering the Habs flying the zone every single time. As good as Freddie is, he isn't going to do well facing 8 breakaways and 2 on 1s a game. Oh, and better figure out how to generate more offense when needed. That 3rd period was terrible.
 
Meh … I certainly got the rust versus rest thing wrong. A little slow, a little clunky, just late to every 50/50 pretty much all night. They did manage to get the rev counter up to speed in the second and did a better job of layering support, but that’s 100% a game you just flush. After you let it get you pissed off.

Honestly, he hasn’t look right since he came back from the concussion. He’s reacting with the puck instead of making plays and you can see him shuffling through the options defensively. Hopefully he’ll play his way through it, but right now he’s a minor liability.
 
This is Game 1 after a 2 week layoff. Game sucked all the way around and demonstrated how MTL makes you crazy. Just forget this one and do better— keep it simple, cover and press, support your teammates, make a couple more saves, win a few more face offs, solid passing, get less penalties, remember your discipline…Put this one in the trash bin and come back on
