Playoffs 2022

Cale Makar. Hobey Baker, Calder, Norris, Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup champion.

23 years old.

He's already a HOFer and he's been in the NHL for three full seasons.

What a player.
Gretzky said said a couple of weeks back “the best Dman since Orr”.

Any one questioning the Avs defensive game should go back and watch that 3rd period..
Avs just too fast and too good. They’ll be very hard to beat the next couple of years. I guess former players can still be good GM’s if it’s the right ones.

Much to their credit, they got a lot better. It also helps that Tampa Bay was running on fumes, but that isn't their fault.

Night & day compared to how they played in game 1.

Some potential big UFA losses this summer

Nich, Manson ,Kemper, Burakosky , Kadri etc....they cant keep them all

At least their core is locked up and Nate mentions he will take a discount

If they can keep Kadri at a reasonable amount, MacKinnon's going to be getting an 8 year ~$9.5M to $10M contract, and the Avalanche continue drafting decent-to-good players, they're going to stay good for a while. I don't expect Colorado to be nearly as good next year because I would be very surprised if Kadri has the same kind of year, Nischushkin is going to get paid as a free agent and Lehkonen's not going to come cheap.

Just need Detroit to start getting good and we could have ourselves a fun revival to that dormant rivalry.

The weakness of the Avs is goaltending and not their defensive system/play..
No, it's definitely both. Colorado, prior to the last 3 or so games of the series, was too loosey goosey defensively. Too many forwards taking the wrong man (You could see that on Palat's goal in game 5 and on Tampa's late scoring opportunity in game 6), too many defensemen being too lackadaisical in their own end. But, again, to their credit, they got their shit together as the finals went on. You couldn't make a real case they were good in any of the three series prior to the final.

Kuemper's a bigger problem than the Avs defensively by a longshot, though. Had he played like he wasn't ready to shit himself, Avs probably win in 5.

Kadri is the same situation as Evander Kane. Fine for a short period and then you walk away before losing your mind and committing real money and term. The Avs won the Cup so they've officially maxed out on Kadri. Time to let him become some other team's problem.

Nate settles in around 11ish

Matthews will be the NHLPA project to set the next salary bar to surpass McJesus

Kadri is going for 1 last payday and its buyer beware , he is gone .

Lek is an RFA somewhere in the 3.5 range or inks around 4 with term .

Game 2 was perfection, the 3rd period of last night's game, another perfect display.. game 5 was questionable goaltending.. the Avs defensive game was very good throughout the playoffs.. some set backs, but overall it was better than what you give them credit for..I think you are just wrong on this one.. cheers

I think you're dealing with recency bias more than anything else, since Colorado was not good defensively against Nashville, St Louis or Deadmonton.

We do agree that Darcy Kuempher had a nice ride along, though.
