Funny, I have been reading teeds stuff for a few years. Sometimes I like to eat my brownie or gummie bear and read his stuff ..... he can be hilarious.
But for those who are perfect and never screw up, I can understand their shock.
Interesting, as hockey has changed as a sport, so has everyones perception on things which can be said or not.
Fat, stupid, idiot, dumb, moron, stupid have all been used these past few days here, and no one was offended. But use the word gay, and some fall to pieces.
Teeds, your post did its job and you got your attention. Stop being an idiot (oops, do I get banned for that).
Why is everyone so damned politically correct?

There are only so many times people are willing to complain about things. I have a child with Down syndrome. The word moron is like a knife in the heart. I end up blocking the worst offenders. Just because people don't say anything, doesn't imply that its ok. It's not about being PC. It's about not being a douche. If someone knows we have a poster who is not hetero in the fold, why use hurtful terms just because you can? If you know better, do better. Pretty simple actually.

There are many cerebral people posting in this forum. A plethora of posters who come across as educated. A simple thesaurus would be extremely useful for this. The vocabulary available is bountiful.

Agreed, that is why I asked about no one being offended by the terms I had mentioned but yet, the word gay gets many in a bit of a roar.
We have an older child with developmentally delayed issues.
I think I can understand your position a little from our own experiences.
I apologize if my post aggravated you, I was just bring up the fact that other posters(including myself) have on occasion used unsuitable terms in the heat of the moment.
I cant believe I am defending teeds and I only wrote my comments as a way showing how often we say things without realizing its potential for harm.
Once again I apologize and end with this, fuxk you teeds, this is not the mountain I intend to die on.

Ok, this is not the most PC board around, in fact it’s far from it. Yes, I cringe at some of the verbiage used but people need a thicker skin. This is not a license to go off on other people’s choices in life. We are pretty tolerant of heated discussions however posters will need to heed warnings when they cross the line. Repeat offenders will have to be suspended. Should they continue then the board once again decides what to do with them. It’s the closest form of democracy we can have.

I ask that people think before posting inflammatory references to sexual orientation, race, sexual assault and other ad hominems. I am not singling anyone out because the vast majority of us have been guilty of this to some extent. Let’s debate without derogatory references shall we?

Hey, I'm far from the word police. I was a huge offender with the R word before I had my little boy. I would like to think that if someone told me how much it hurt them, then I would have removed it from my vocabulary. I am a much different person now, than I was then though. I also have a step daughter who is currently dating a girl. I guess it's perpective. :)

It wasn't aimed at you, really. Thank you for you post and your point.

Yeah no more using the word for me. Crazy how these medical terms develop into slurs. Doesn't matter how it happened.. I'm done using the word.

I thank you both, and Ray, from the bottom of me heart. People just don't get that the more normalized it is, the more likely kids are going to use it. I shudder to think I'm going to have to explain to my sweet child what the word means and why he was called it.

Play to your audience. If words offend people, too bad. Instead of asking people why or complaining that they shouldn't be offended, just stop using those words. It's not that hard.

The anti-PC movement has been a well-funded aggressive indoctrination for a few generations now. Most don't realize how indoctrinated they've become.

at its core is an attempt to undermine democratic government (allowing corporations to dominate untethered), because democracy at its core is nothing more than Political Correctness - i.e that everyone has "rights", and that everyone is created equal.

yep.

Political correctness IS civilization. it IS evolution. treating each other with respect, and as equals.

But they have spent a lot of time and money turning it into a dirty word.

perhaps - i am not educated enough on any of that

i just think treating people better is always the right answer - especially when the cost to the person is really nothing

also note this is just in time for people to yell and scream about how it is their right to say merry christmas!

You have to realize that people used to be told to suck it up. I was raised to understand that words only hurt if you let them. This is no longer the case in society. It’s not easy for some people, especially older generations, to just turn off what seemed normalized to them. Sure many will but you can’t expect immediate change, life doesn’t work that way. Everything is gradual.

That is most likely true.

In terms of the knowledge on bullying, mental health, etc I think we have come a long way.

I sometimes wonder about what the future battle will be about.
My theory is that in a generation or two people will be appalled that I eat/ate meat. That will be the new what the hell do you mean women could not vote?
That will be what my generation holds on to...like the previous generation held onto "straight marriage"
