Political Correctness

I dunno.

I'm not sure that's really offensive, unless you think the word 'bitch' is inherently offensive.
You may not find it offensive but others do and that's the issue

Not everyone is offended by Baby it's Cold Outside the way others are but because there was some controversy it's better to pull it then deal with the PR debacle

Like Habsy said the line is always moving

it's funny because it's the people who complain about PC culture now who were always the one insisting that you couldn't say "fukc" on tv.

Yep and trivial, overly sensitive and on it goes.

It was very effective though.

I'm okay with most political correctness, because most of the time, it's a case of not being a dick, not insulting people, and not being rude.

I can get behind that.

But there are always going to be those who take things to the extreme.

Like being called transphobic for not dating a transgender man or woman.

https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-42652947

The McGill Redmen having a name change because their name made first nations students feel unsafe, even when the name was given because they wore red uniforms.

Women being called transphobic for not allowing a pre op transgender woman enter a nude women only spa

https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=...cle35308547/&usg=AOvVaw3EVCsIddLtlI0bZ39-_-54

I mean, I get it, feelings matter, but at the same time, some people take things too far.

I'm good with civility. Where I draw the line is on things like libel, slander, smears, character assassination and the like.

Fairytale of New York is next on the hitlist it seems

That one might hit close to the heart BL. I know you enjoy some Pogues

seriously the whole "free speech / pc / etc/" debate should change to the more important debate on whether people should be allowed to spread lies. that's the actual issue - both determining what the truth is, and acknowledging that it might be best to actively start preventing those who spread lies.

That's the real next step in our evolution as a species, maybe.

Truth doesn't matter.

How people feel matters. If people feel a certain way based on a lie, it doesn't matter that it was a lie.

Redmen football team is racist, people feel unsafe. Turns out its named because they wear red uniforms. That doesn't matter anymore.

Baby its cold outside is a date rape song, people feel offended. Turns out its about a woman dealing with the societal shame of casual sex. Doesn't matter anymore.

How people feel takes precedent, not what is true.

Pogues have all kinds of slurs in their lyrics. Artistic usage in poetry is quite different from people using it in standard prose or speech.

Not everyone sees it that way and round and round we go

(I'm with you on this one btw)

In any event, I am not a fan of any censorship of speech. Amplifying it and giving it a platform is another matter. But if people have racists or other unsavoury views, let them verbalize it. I'm very uncomfortable with Canada's hate speech laws, for instance.

Big deal though. Someone will get offended by just about anything. No reason for censorship.

Polly could easily be deemed offensive as well

and if stations decided not to play a song about rape
no big deal

now if the government says they cannot play it....well...different story....like say Cop Killer

of course people are acting like this is new

Except its not a song about rape, its a song some overly sensitive people have taken out of context to make it a song about rape.
