Sinclair/Ballys/ESPN/TNT ... broadcasting access, tips and notes

Amazon is investing in Diamond sports group and will allow them to emerge from bankruptcy (if approved by the bankruptcy court). They will provide access to the RSNs through Amazon Prime. They will also still be available on cable and satellite

better than a kick in the pants I reckon

Well, we already have Prime, so this sets us up to be able to ditch DirecTV and save a boatload. Canes coverage was the only reason we were hanging on.
Same ... although I'm probably more fired up about being able to go back to YouTubeTV for my base streamer.
I am 99% sure it won't be included for free in Prime. It will be an add-on, much like you can buy Max, Showtime, Paramount+, etc. through Prime.
Yeah ... most of the sports options thus far on Prime have been add-on subscriptions.

It will be an add on for sure as it will probably replace the god awful Ballys app. So the prime thing will only be needed for those that don’t get Bally’s on cable or satellite.

We ditched Directv a few weeks back for YouTube TV but then I ended up spending $20 a month just to see Canes games by having to stream the Ballys Sports app…hopefully the Prime add on for Ballys comes in well under that $20 a month price point…

That sucks. I was hoping for a planned discount for Prime members. There's no way I'm paying $20 just to watch one team.

Until Prime reveals how they plan to package it we don’t know much aside from it’s going to be available through Prime.

Yeah, we'll see what the details look like but Ballys is bankrupt for a reason. And it's not that their prices are too high.

The NHL blackout rules are outdated and dumb, if the league really wanted to do their fans right they would make home team games available to “paying” customers that invest in a full season of the NHL season subscription. It’s not like ESPN + subscribers are looking for a free ride…

MLB and NBA work the same way.

I hate it, too, but as long as there are two revenue streams—national, league wide rights deals and local rights deals—it’s unlikely to change soon.

So long as the team benefits more from the local/regional deal ... and they do ... then the league is going to allow blackouts that favor the local market. The only way to avoid that would be a consolidated TV package and that would not benefit the smaller markets in any way.

After several years of no rate increases from Spectrum, our bill climbed about $40. I finally got around to calling them to cancel TV, but planned to keep internet. They dug around for a few minutes and found $50 in monthly savings AND upgraded our net to 1gb. Locked us in for 3 years. But, I noticed tonight that Bally isn't available, although we supposedly got the same package. But for whatever reason, the Bally app streams the game on my TV with no issues. So I'll ride out the season, at least, with cable.

I had that issue a few weeks ago one of my boxes had 0 channels about 15 later all was normal again

The guide shows Bally 318 locked with the key symbol. But I also don't see it included in any package, sports, premier, etc. But the ap lets me log in with my Spectrum credentials. So....

They told me I was getting the same channel lineup I had already. Been too lazy to call tonight. Its the only channel I see locked.
