Sinclair/Ballys/ESPN/TNT ... broadcasting access, tips and notes

The Preds signed a deal with Scripps Sports to replace FanDuel next season. The games will be broadcast on a local TV station, owned by the Ion Media division of Scripps. They’ll offer over the air and direct to cinsumer options. Scripps also has deals with Florida, Tampa, Utah and Vegas.

There is an Ion/Scripps owned station in the area, WRPX, channel 47 licensed in Rocky Mount. Might be an option for Fork to pursue. Tonight’s offerings on the station are nonstop episodes of Chicago Fire from season 5, which were originally broadcast in 2016-17.
 
I’ve been loving the new Braves vision. I pay 29.99 on the mlb app for the entire season. Not sure how I’ve been getting that price every year but it keeps renewing through Apple for that. I ain’t complaining. The production is great and it’s the same group that was on fan duel and Ballys. Even the camera crew because most of those guys are local contract/union guys and don’t work solely for fan duel.

I understand that the Canes have been consulting with the Preds and are very aware of that deal’s particulars. I do think Scripps is an option for the Canes, but it would also depend on the streaming element.

So, there’s still a “market specific” distribution plan to be detailed later on, but at least we know the general direction for televised games.
 
It sounds like things will end up the way they were last year for the Canes, sort of. If you have cable or another similar pay provider, the non-ESPN games will all be available on a 'channel'. Maybe there will be some 'over the air' games. That 'channel' though won't be on the air all of the time broadcasting various sports shows or filler. Spectrum has some of those types of available channels ready to go. There also should be a streaming option if you don't have a pay provider that will be showing the games.

As for production quality, it definitely will be interesting to see what this new NHL production setup can pull off.

Yeah, what you’re describing meshes well with what ION does. That could be the way they go, since it’s basically the same kind of setup they have with NWSL. And I’d guess the NHL will either do streaming through their own website or the team websites … which are all run by the league anyway.
 
Moving to the radio side of things, SiriusXM will start broadcasting 42 terrestrial stations owned by Audacy, 23 of which are sports stations, including WFAN, WIP in Philly and WEEI in Boston. All will be available on the SiriusXM app, some will be available on car radios. Sirius will pay a licensing fee and will run its own ads when the stations move to commercial breaks. The stations will also remain available on its current platforms. Access is expected o be available on September 1.
 
As mentioned earlier in this thread, ESPN Unlimited is now available through the ESPN app for Youtube TV customers.
It will be eventually worked into the Live Guide in YTTV.




Starting today, you can link your ESPN account directly to your YouTube TV account. Linking your accounts lets you log into the ESPN app to stream ESPN Unlimited content right away.

How to link your accounts

  • From YouTube (Web and Mobile): Go to Settings, select Connected apps, and choose ESPN. (Link)
  • From YouTube TV Mobile app: Open the YouTube TV app, select your profile picture, tap Settings, select Sports, and choose ESPN.
What this means for your viewing experience

  • Fantasy view updates: We now support ESPN Fantasy in our Fantasy view! NFL Fantasy is moving to ESPN Fantasy, so if you previously used NFL you will need to link your ESPN account to access Fantasy view on YouTube TV for the upcoming season.
  • Watch on the ESPN app: As long as ESPN is included in your YouTube TV channel lineup and after you have linked your accounts through YouTube TV, you can log into the ESPN app to stream ESPN Unlimited content directly within their app. If you have a family account for YouTube TV, you’ll need to be on the family manager account to watch content on ESPN.
  • Full YouTube TV integration coming soon: While account linking lets you access content in the ESPN app today, we are also working on bringing the full ESPN Unlimited experience directly inside YouTube TV later this fall.
  • Who can link accounts: Anyone can link their accounts to enable the fantasy view. However, you need ESPN included in your YouTube TV plan (such as the Base Plan, Sports Plan, or sports add-on packages) to access ESPN Unlimited content.
