Sinclair/Ballys/ESPN/TNT ... broadcasting access, tips and notes

I have ESPN free with Verizon, but they never show anything for "free". It always tells me I have to upgrade. So I assume the opening night game won't be on either. And I'm not paying for more than one service to watch hockey this year.

It’s on regular ESPN, not ESPN+

You can’t even see the thousands of college football games they broadcast on Saturdays?

Last several times I looked up something b the ESPN app it says I have to upgrade. Our free Verizon version shows Belgrade women's basketball and dog shows.
 
OK, so they've announced the streaming provider (Prime) and a cable provider (Spectrum) so at this point they're basically missing a secondary "live" streaming service (which was DirecTV) to get back to where they were. It would be nice if they'd let us in on what they have in mind so we can all just figure out our best option, but ... here we are.
 
We have a Prime Video account, which is free to us because my wife has an Amazon credit card (we’ll see if that covers the HHN, but I doubt it). There are Canes games listed, showing as ”unavailable”. So it looks like that’s the place for them.

The Prime membership does not cover it, you have to pay $19.99/month or $99/year. That's why I am waiting for the DTV announcement

Yea like nomich said it’s an add on not covered by prime video. I get prime video for free too but will have to pay for canes if directv doesn’t get a channel. It mentioned it in the release
 
I went the DirectTV route last year. But also already have Prime. So this year I got YouTube TV sports package. It has a lot of the sports channels for a lot less than the DTV package was. Figure I’ll add the 99 to prime for HTV and end up paying less over the season.

I wouldn't be shocked if there isn't a DTV tie-in this time. IIRC, they were kind of stuck offering the regional sports networks because of some agreement made when Fox sold their interest in DTV. I remember reading a couple of years ago that AT&T would have been thrilled not to have to provide channel space for those RSNs (because they lost a ton of money), but they were contractually stuck.

It might yet happen though ... who knows. It's not like anybody's going to tell us one way or another until it's a done deal.

The way I explained it to my brother in law (who was convinced of the same thing) was to compare the Hurricanes Network to BritBox or Paramount+ ... Prime has thumbnails for shows from those other carriers on their home page but actually watching those shows costs extra. I think he eventually understood, but I wouldn't be shocked if he was just pretending to agree so I'd shut up.
