Summer 2015 Transfer Thread

But does a player on loan count?

Wouldn't think so, so basically they will sign the kid and he will sit on the bench forever.

A home grown rule is all well and good but if all it results in are good young players sitting on the bench for bigger clubs looking for fill out a roster how does that help develop English players?

The article makes it sound like he can be on the senior roster but still play with the U-21 squad. But it also sounds like City's academy is still a work in progress and lags behind the other top clubs.

And as much as that will hurt Villa, it's still a good piece of business. That's a nearly 20 million pound return on investment in a player we didn't develop from academy. Take that gain, find another striker and move on down the road.

And I will gladly take his production, though the recent injury history is cause for concern for me. We already have an injury-prone striker. Just hope this doesn't extend into a third straight season for him in the Prem.

I read that Liverpool's doctor flew back from their trip to conduct the medical starting tonight and possible bleeding over to tomorrow.

Benteke's in good health now, so that medical should be a non-issue. He had been pretty durable before the last two years, so it's hard to judge how he will do going forward. But his style is based on power, not speed and his injuries have been leg-related ... so I doubt there's much there other than bad fortune.

Newcastle have signed Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic for £13m - subject to a work permit.

Good to see Newcastle spending some money this summer.

Tottenham midfielder Benjamin Stambouli has joined French champions Paris St-Germain on a five-year deal for a fee reported to be about £6m.

Is it bad that I had zero idea who he was and had to look him up?

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of forward Patrick Bamford on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Bamford, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, has agreed the switch on the same day that it was announced he had signed a new three-year deal at Chelsea.

Good signing for Palace that one, another step up the ladder for Bamford as he works towards the Chelsea first team.

It's subject to a work permit. He's Serbian and has played for European clubs before. I thought those were pretty much automatic?

Serbia isn't part of the EU so he doesn't get an automatic visa, the club has to apply.

Shouldn't be an issue with 13 national caps at age 20.

Not at all. He was barely used while Pochettino tried to decide whether Paulinho or Capoue was the most hapless midfielder on the squad.

That being said, his pace wasn't really consistent with the pressing style that MP espouses, and his case wasn't helped by the emergence of Delle Alli in training. 19 years old, Football League YPOY (MK Dons), and apparently absolutely burning with passion. Notched a goal in his first match over the weekend. Keep an eye on that one.

Benteke signing is official now. VERY happy about this one. :)

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of Belgium international striker Christian Benteke from Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Reds today after successfully completing a medical in London.

Benteke has built a reputation as one of the Barclays Premier League's most clinical forwards since joining Villa from Genk in 2012, having scored 49 goals in 101 appearances for the Midlands side.

You should be. Christian is a very fun player to watch when he's on form. Both physical and fluid, and you don't see a lot of guys with that combination of qualities. I'm happy to see that most Villa fans seem to be wishing him the best, recognizing that he gave us a ton in 3 years and that we made a ton of money from the sale.

Hoping that he comes out of the gate on fire, because in the two Liverpool groups I'm in on Facebook, opinion is sharply divided. Some like the signing, and others think he's too inconsistent to spend that much on. I've read (and have been critical of) too many "Andy Carroll" comparisons to make my head spin.

Frankly, as a Villan I couldn't care less what Liverpool fans feel about the transfer ... but ... I do think comparing Benteke to Carroll is dumb. He's a proven player not just in the EPL (half a goal per game over three full seasons and a patch of injuries), but also Internationally for Belgium (he's been their first choice striker for 3 years now) and for Genk as a 19 year old. He's not some guy who came out of nowhere with a big year and then cashed in. Seriously. A lot of those people just need to watch somebody other than their own club and country every so often.

Did you over pay? God I hope so. But class costs money and Benteke's a class striker.
