As much as we hate their hockey team, Vancouver has been named the best city in the world in which to live on multiple occasions. There's no comparison there.

I don't think that was his point. I think he meant that you can find shitty areas of most cities.

The difference is, Sochi is supposed to be a quaint resort city, not a thriving metropolis with 2+ Million people in the metro area. A few shitty areas are excusable in Vancouver. Doubt you saw scenes like above in Whistler or Squamish leading up to the Olympics.

it is if you can handle S.A.D (which hasn't been bad this year given we have had a lot more sun than normal), can afford a 2 million dollar bungalow on the west side, and don't mind the fact we have a crappy transit and road system

Yes, let's compare the nation with arguably the highest standard of living in the world to a cesspool.

The biggest issue in Vancouver was one flame not working in the Opening Ceremonies and some minor worries about there not being enough snowfall.

They were a ridiculous success in every respect and created a legacy in Vancouver.

Not basic plumbing not working, terrorism, human rights abuses against homosexuals, and killing animals.

A friend of mine in Vancouver told me that the city was offering one way bus tickets out of town to the homeless, that are absolutely everywhere around downtown Van.

Also I work with a Russian guy, he says Sochi is a resort area for rich people.

You can't go wrong with Giroux or St Louis. I prefer Giroux myself.
