It’s only “slick” if you think it was worth trading a prospect and a pick to “protect” Kerfoot and Dermott.
Since I very much don’t subscribe to that view (and would like to see Kerfoot fired off this roster out of a cannon), it looks like a waste to me.
Unless Dermott is better than I think, or Dubas turns around after the expansion draft and trades Kerfoot for something worth more than Hallander & a 7th.
So Frank basically has the whole list already? Someone's got to get fired here.

I'm hoping for a Kerfoot trade for a true Hyman replacement.
Kerfoot will only be paid something like 1.9 or 1.6 in real dollars with a 3.5 cap hit. Some teams would really want that (Coyotes, I am looking at you)
I agree that the conversations with Francis were probably... who do you want from another team? I'll get them, and you take them because I have a deal in place for Kerfoot or Dermott already.

Really going south on my view of Dubas. Coughed up tons of futures for nuthin' and to hold onto a middling talent that eats up too much cap space. Also, his plan to basically hold onto a team's main players who continually choke it up in the playoffs. Also annoyed by holding onto Fred with his also demostrated choking in the playoffs.
