The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Bunting --- Matthews --- Marner
Mikheyev --- Tavares --- Engvall
Robertson - Kerfoot -- Nylander
Blackwell --- Kampf --- Kase
I don’t know about the lines but I love that there are zero weak links in that lineup and a guy like Spezza is first up. I’d probably play Spezza over Blackie to begin, given how well he’s playing at the moment.

Abruzzese really looks like he needs a good dose of AHL games, is there any reason why he's still getting NHL playing time?

I'd have really liked Keefe to try mikky and Engvall together with Tavares. It's the one thing he hasn't tried. I get that he wants to keep a big fast two way guy like Engvall on that 3rd line with Willy but the mikky/Engvall chem is so good and arguably compensates for all of tavares' weaknesses perfectly.

Might have been a negotiating chip they used to lure him over this year. I believe he was leaning towards returning to Harvard for another year but they managed to convince him; possibly promising him a certain amount of games this year.

Its weird that Joey Anderson hasn't gotten more of a shot this year. He's the only guy that has put up good numbers on the 4th line all year, though in only 4 games.

And I think it's pretty clear that those are the pairings Keefe is gonna want to go with for game 1 of the playoffs. Hope Muzz can get up to speed quickly and stay healthy because Muzzin-Brodie could be awesome.

Maybe but not necessarily.

I think Keefe knows that the only way Boosh makes any sense in the lineup is playing either with Mo (but not on the o-zone starts) or with Sandin on the bottom pair. At no point has Keefe ever tried Boosh on the top matchup pair and when he's tried to use Boosh with a less mobile guy like Gio or Muzzin it's been awful.

And Keefe is probably unsure of what Muzz's actual status is atm, not to mention that brodie is probably the best partner for him, so this could be just a look-see - if muzz shows he's ready to go then maybe he doesn't need Brodie next game, but if he's not ready to go it's easy to just swap Holl in his place beside brodie and leave the other two pairs undisturbed.

We'll see what happens but if Muzz looks good tonight I wouldn't be surprised to see Mo-TJ and Muzz-Holl again.

Could be, but Keefe has talked about his dreams of matching Muzz-Brodie for several years. And he said that he finally feels comfortable enough to do it because they have enough depth surrounding them that it won't compromise the other pairs. I genuinely believe that's his TOP option.

But I really do hope you're right about Boosh.

Yeah Muzz-Brodie does make a ton of sense, and Holl has never been a good match with Rielly, and Mo-Boosh does end up getting the easiest matchups and zone starts and keefe is able to keep Boosh to #6 minutes anyways in that setup....so that could well be his first option.

Keefe on Muzz-Brodie earlier this month:
"We thought it was really good in the short time they played together [last year]. They’ve played together a little this year and it wasn’t as good as last season, but it was very strong last season. We didn’t stay with it because we didn’t like how it affected the other pairings for us.

With Giordano’s arrival and the way Lyubshkin has played for us, it gives us some room to look at not just putting Muzzin and Brodie together but seeing what Giordano and Holl look like."

Replace Holl with Liljegren in the last part of the last sentence. They look real good and he knows it. Which should make him more comfortable going Muzz-Brodie if the concern before was how it affected the other pairs.

Thing is I won't disagree with him that Muzz-Brodie has the chance to be our best shutdown pairing.

ace up the sleeve

Plus with 2 games remaining, Keefe is not likely fucking around here. There's no time to experiment really. This is likely what they're going with on D game 1 unless Muzzin really struggles getting up to speed.

Cant forget that since the deadline Boosh has played by far the least, in (almost) every situation.

TOT 1.Mo 23:02, 2.TJ 21:25, 3.Gio 19:22, 4.Holl 19:09, 5.Muzz 18:42, 6.Lilly 17:44, 7.Lyb 16:23
EV 1.Mo 18:54, 2.TJ 18:29, 3.Holl 16:55, 4.Muzz 16:37, 5.Gio 16:07, 6.Lilly 15:47, 7.Lyb 15:30
SH: 1.TJ 2:38, 2.Holl 2:12, 3.Muzz 2:03, 4.Gio 1:38, 5.Lilly 0:56, 6.Lyb 0:53, 7.Mo 0:41
PP: 1.Mo 3:27, 2.Gio 1:37, 3.Lilly 1:01, 4.TJ 0:17, 5.Holl 0:03, 6.Muzz 0:02, 7.Lyb 0:00

Yeah Mo-Boosh is the 3rd pairing, full stop. That's why I don't care much about Boosh playing. I would obviously much prefer Holl but not many series are lost because of a #6 d. And quite frankly he's better than many 6's on very good teams.
