The New Division

Amazing what shoot first players can accomplish with PP time.

In fact, Bobby Ryan is precisely the player rival fans accuse Kessel of being...lazy, nonphysical 1-dimensional goalscorer.

And he falls down a lot. The "Hartnell Down" meme could also be applied to Ryan as he'll probably flop down at least as many times as he scores goals (25-30).
It is a nice pickup by the Senators though, but I still prefer Kessel because of assist potential. And of course, while Spezza has a great shot he underutilizes it, making this Ryan thing look like Heatley 2.0 all over again. Spezza's been dishing to Ryan nonstop so far in training camp (admittedly an extremely small sample size), so they might have to put Bobby on another line to balance the offense.

Just for the sake of discussion, I imagine this is something similar to what the Sens will put out there this season?

Michalek-Spezza-Ryan
Conacher-Turris-MacArthur
Greening-ZBad-Neil
O'Brien/Kassian-Smith-Condra

Karlsson-Methot
Phillips-Cowen
Gryba-Corvo/Wiercioch

Anderson
Lehner

I was just looking at that lineup I posted and thinking the same thing. Right now it's a very nice 1st line...and then the question marks start.

Wonderful stuff here.

How dare I compare players 1 year apart, both top-5 drafts and both hovering around the 30gls/60pts per 82 game pace for their career. THE NERVE!

Holy hell, Kessel hasn't even had two full seasons of elite production but you guys think it's as if they aren't comparable players.

How would you even know if this was true or not. Are you watching the Sens training camp? or are you basing it on the ONE televised pre-season game.

Nor has Karlsson, but you've anointed him the hockey Jesus.

With Kessel being the younger of the two. Just wanted to clarify.

both top-5 drafts and both hovering around the 30gls/60pts per 82 game pace for their career.

Because career numbers are borderline useless? Feel free to check the much more telling 2 yr splits to see why we're making fun of you.

THE NERVE!

Nope, not nerve. Stupidity.

Holy hell, Kessel hasn't even had two full seasons of elite production but you guys think it's as if they aren't comparable players.

Because he's the younger of the 2 and has 1.5 seasons of elite production. Of course, the reason he doesn't have 2 full seasons of elite production has absolutely nothing to do with Kessel, but because the league shut the **** down.

They're a hilarious comparison at this point in their respective careers.

Heh. What was he supposed to do here? End the lockout?

Hell, you could even use a three year split which would be being very generous to Ryan and it's not really that close either.

Feel free to make a prediction on what you think a player can be.

But I'm not the one laughing at a suggestion the Subban and him are in the same conversation.

I think Karlsson is quite a bit better, but even then, at least that comparison has .5 seasons of data to support it. There is nothing supporting the idea that Bobby Ryan is comparable to Phil Kessel.
