The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Like if the leafs got the semifinals at any point playing like that I'd be embarrassed. That's nothing to be proud of, I don't care how young and cute the team is. There are other way better reasons to be proud of that group.
The best is, if we'd won against Florida last year with a 9 shot effort in game 7, they would still be talking about how we didn't deserve to advance.

But the Habs are fucking hockey marvels for getting to the third round and playing only one game out of five once they got there.

hmm sure sounds like none of the leafs talk to mitch anymore.

So basically fellow ex-Leafs who he can trash talk with.

Yeah, the fact that Matty wasn't the first name out of his mouth speaks voluuuuuuuumes given what their relationship used to be, and also gives some insight as to the Paul stuff.

Oh yeah, fuck that guy. What a way to ruin yourself. Go win a cup, have fun, but you didn't have to publicly torch the last 10 years of your career to do it. What a fucking moron.

Maybe try winning that game 7 first before seeing if the world demands an apology from you.

The whole thing, imo, is measured in titles and proximity from a title. If the Leafs had made the conference finals and then ran into a championship calibre team that historically mollywhopped the shit out of them, showing them that they're nowhere near that level, I don't think I'd feel better about it all than if they lost to a similar cup calibre team in the 1st or 2nd round in a 7 game series that legitimately could have gone either way.

Honestly, that was the most agonizing thing about that whole era of Leaf hockey, you kept seeing then lay the boots to elite teams for stretches in a series, even in higher pressure games sometimes, and wondered if they finally figured it out.
