Yeah, I don't really see the argument for trading OEL either. And don't think he will be.
Good puck-moving D and all-around defender. Signed at a reasonable cap hit on a relatively short-term deal ($3.5M x2).
And Chayka probably has even more of a relationship with him than Sundin does. He was OEL's GM in Phoenix from 2015-2020, when OEL was in his prime and was their #1 defenseman. Chayka never traded him away there either---OEL didn't get dealt to Vancouver until about a year after Chayka quit.

Yeah if there was a mercy rule in the NHL where the league stepped in when a trade was deemed to be "too unfair", that one would have triggered it.

We got our asses saved on one of the assets with the lottery win, but damn it still burns that we gave up Minten for nothing in that deal. He would be perfect for 3C right now. Fucking perfect.

Tanev is only a lock if he's healthy, and you have to be prepared for him to not be and basically have another top 4 guy playing on the third pair.
Rielly is a lock. He's not going anywhere.

Laughton went for 1st + Grebs.
Carlo went for 1st + Minten.
The Laughton one you can argue was fair value and what the market maybe would've paid if another team got him. But the Carlo one is mind-boggling - the 1st pick top 5 protected was already too much.
