The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Yet almost everything I’ve come across in the media is positive about our work yesterday.

Because most people whose job it is to watch hockey, don't actually understand hockey and prefer it's easy narratives.

The worst part is that we're going to be better regardless of the disaster class we saw yesterday, and the bottom 6 grit will get outsized praise as the reason why.

We're just a fake lunch bucket, fake blue collar fanbase.

Could it just be that our pro scouting department is absolute dogshit, and it carries over from one regime to the next?
i mean id say the answer to that is very likely yes but also, this just seems like very much a philosophy thing/vision thing.

because either being data driven was just bs or their idea on what data was important is very very different from the other nerds?

Well all the guys they acquired are in fact good defensively and the numbers back it up.

It’s more a question of philosophy than data.

i'd say there's no question how they're using the data differs from the consensus of nerds/analytics junkies that's all.

i did say it's a philosophy/vision thing.

i'm definitely skeptical of said vision.

and also, these guys are established NHLers. I don't think there's much risk that they're unplayable in the next 1-2 years. But certainly there isn't much upside there, they're 4th liners, unless maybe Sissons can play on the 3rd line. Except for Roslovic who I think is a middle 6 winger.
