The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

$1,872,382 in capspace with one forward slot open.

So basically a million in capspace with whichever near league min forward they call up as the 14th.....which they probably just keep as a cushion, but could add to any traded player's caphit to add a slightly higher caphit player.
Which forward slot is open? They have 13 not counting Domi.

I doubt macewen is a fulltime leaf. Seems like a marlies signing.
For sure. Ignoring him, we have 13 and 7 signed. If we LTIR Domi and don’t do anything else, looks to me like we have $1,872,618 to spend, with no open spots and nobody needing to be sent down.

13 and 7 means one open slot left for a 14th forward.

Mckenna and cowan are only sent down on paper, so that Domi can be put on season opening ltir, and they are immediately called back up.

I didn’t know that the plan is to carry two extra forwards, but sure, then there’s an open spot for a 14th.

In looking at the roster, I’m doubtful he’s going to add any more forwards. Who does he drop to make room? Not one of his new guys and almost all of the existing guys are in his top 6. Only possibility is getting rid of Joshua, which he totally might. But after that, the only candidate I see is Cowan, and that would have to be part of a significant trade. Lorentz is basically an extra now so he doesn’t enter the equation.

If you are in LTIR anyway there is no reason not carry a full roster.

Chayka did mention it’s an open competition in camp and he’s not concerned about burying salaries in the minors. But really the only guys than can apply to are Lorentz and Stecher.

Aside from 72 signing here (EF), no one has a clue. Don’t get why the board keeps discussing things as if they know what they are talking about.

Let’s hope he can rebound under sheltered minutes and a new coach this year. If we need to trade him (assuming we land that big fish of a dman), then we get better value.

I don’t think he is going anywhere before the season. If he was gonna dump him, it was before we lost the opportunity to trade with the Jackets to make room.

These guys are all convinced he's a goner eventually. The desperation to trade him is weird, but not as weird if it's a trade request and they're just struggling to find a partner offering a decent deal.

Kinda sucks because there probably isn't an opportunity to upgrade on the player.

Yeah its starting to read as much if not more player motivated than team.

I wonder if ANA has interest? you would need one of their salaried F though, and clearly they have othr things to worry about

I mean when asked about the rumors the general manager, assistant general manager and head coach all day "he's a great leaf and loves being a leaf but we'll see what happens" as opposed to "the rumors are false."

It's not so much about believing the rumor guys in all situations as it is using your brain and reading between the lines by practicing common sense. Plus when there's this much noise, there's usually truth to it, as it was on Bob.

I’d prefer to keep Reilly. He’s still useful and his contract will be more and more of a steal with each passing year. Most of all, when is the last time we’ve had a Leaf for life? Or a Leaf hit 1000 games with us? He’s in rare company.

I don't think there's a good trade to be made so I'm a bit nervous. Sounds like they won't retain and won't take back a shit contract, but I'm not expecting much in return. And the replacement d will probably be a downgrade (Ferraro was their guy, it's time for plan B or C, Lord knows what that is).

Hopefully they just keep him to start the year. Build that trade value up, he should look much better with this group.
