The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Its wild to me that you have an AHL team that wins the Calder and the response is many bottom 6ers signed to 2 year deals.

I get that FA was gross, but this is odd, also Roslovic is almost double the price of Maccelli, and im not convinced is actually better

The only move i like is Paul because of how terrible the C market was and how badly you needed someone to play the heavies, but as Preston said, he's been in decline and far from a sure thing

Blueger on the surface seems harmless, but you'd think someone would learn a lesson about taking 4th liners off the worse team in the league and think, this will work for us.

And I'm not Robertson fan, but to dump him for a 4th and then sign a bunch of plugs to replace him? Wut? And yeah I'd rather take a flyer on him than Roslovic. Cheaper, younger, and probably at worst just as good, with some small upside potential to actually breakout with a new more offensive system.

But now that I see this roster shaping up, are they really gonna be playing that much of an offensive system? Over half of their forwards have feet for hands.

I'dve dumped Robertson for whatever tbh, and signed a guy like Ardvidsson, or even Bjorkstrand, Tarasanko, or Kane.

And if i was this hell bent on a defensive guy, i'd have brought Laughton back at that money, or paid Jenner what he got.

Very different models (EW loves defense more than Dom). Our forwards are the same, but we add McKenna and our D is way better. Could've been a monumental difference if we did something better than Sissons/Paul/Duhame though.

So great job winning the lottery! Great job identifying who needed to go! Great job on Raddysh!

Then:

Roslovic -1
Blueger -3
Sissons -6
Paul -6
Duhaime -7

for 16 million bucks.

Organic growth from Cowan and the addition of McKenna should improve the top of the forward group. Raddysh will be a game changer for the d. Andrae is a nice options play.

Forward depth though... Fuck. Could have done some awesome things there. Such a squandered opportunity. You sign maybe 1 of the upper tier guys like Marchment or arvidsson and/or jenner or trade for Hayton because the data says to do that. Add maybe 1 depth plug guy. And let the marlies group battle it out for the rest of the spots.

This guy bailed on data faster than Dubas. Or maybe he fluked out on his other moves and didn't actually use data. In either case, fuck.

Generally speaking, the "value" will usually come from acquiring top line players, even if its never gonna be great in ufa season. There is no data, however, that says that paying big bucks for depth plugs is a good idea.

He gets some grace because he actually acquired a top pair d within months of getting the job. Something Tre never even tried to do. He also had what feels like a phenomenal draft and cleaned out a bunch of Tre Trash.

But that July 1st was something I wouldn't even expect out of Tre. Like I have higher standards than that for Brad Treliving
