The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I'm.all over this Andy hire. Sid is an amazing athlete for certain, but his consistency is all related to how well he's been taken care of. From everything I've read, this guy Andy is well respected by athletes to get them to their best.

I am so stoked for this addition. With Matthews issues, this guy might be able to break through and get him back to his best.
 
I don't think we should be overly surprised that Auston's slip from his peak coincided with the entrenchment of a management and coaching group that didn't value any form of analysis other than the eye test, and success is a matter of how much you're willing to dig in/man up, etc, etc, etc.

Unless if the physical issue really is full on chronic and limiting, he should have a bunch of 50+ goal seasons left in him.

I recall him throwing a tantrum whenever that andi petrillo chick disagreed with him (she was usually right). He also hated analytics and mocked nerds most of his time on the radio. One of the dumbest broadcasters of our time.

He was already a development coach for a few years, so its a promotion. Sounds like JT is a big fan and he’s gotten alot of credit for keeping him productive. Probably got him onto amulets and testicular red light therapy.

I can understand another complete dummy like Treliving hiring POS.

But our new, allegedly smart front office not only deciding to keep him, but promote him…is worrisome. Even if he’s gotten good results out of telling JT to put Jade eggs and red flashlights up his butthole.
 
July 1st has lowered my standards for this front office. It's fine. I cheered for this organization when they were led by Pizza Boy. I can handle square burgers just fine.

Fair point. Abject stupidity from this front office should be the baseline expectation going forward, after July 1st.

Just have to roll with it and hope they fall ass backwards into success, or if not, at least into providing some degree of entertainment.

I also don't think it's nearly as bad as it once was. He identified the teams biggest issue very quickly and addressed it. The D is significantly more mobile and skilled. What he did with the forwards and all that cap space, I can't defend on any level whatsoever, but there is a world in which he's an average GM and not the worst ever like Boston Pizza. And maybe that's ok after accidentally getting Gavin Fucking McKenna and having existing talent like Matthews and Nylander. There's enough there to be intrigued and hopeful.
